Mr. Kevin Conaway, Principal

It is my pleasure to partner with you in "Seeking Excellence as Southeast Falcons!"  My professional mission is to provide a safe and quality education for all students with an emphasis on preparing for the 21st century.

I have been with Guilford County Schools (GCS) in a variety of positions for the last 24 years. I started my career as a social studies teacher at Grimsley High School, where I taught and coached for nine years.  My knowledge of social studies curriculum and instructional strategies allowed me the opportunity to be selected as an academic coach in our district’s Formative Assessment Department and Southeastern Regional office.  In this role, I led teachers in unpacking the curriculum and understanding how best to assess their students.   In 2012, I was selected to pursue a career in school leadership through participation in the Piedmont Triad Leadership Academy (PTLA) and completed an administrative internship at Hairston Middle School.  I began my administrative career here as assistant principal here at SEMS in 2013. I have had the honor to serve as principal at SEMS since 2018.

I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNCG) with degrees in History and Sociology and completed the PTLA graduate program through a partnership with UNCG. My wife of twenty years is also a principal in GCS and we have three young children.  All three are proud GCS students.

I look forward to continuing to work with the students, teachers, parents and community members of Southeast!
