Welcome to Music at Simkins Elementary
Welcome to the Simkins Elementary Music Website!
My name is Erin Hagood and I am the music specialist at Simkins Elementary School. This is my 12th year teaching music, and my 5th year at Simkins. I graduated from Elon University in 2006, and I received my Master of Music degree from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro in 2016. Outside of school, I continue to study and develop my own musical skills by participating in the Greensboro Choral Society and the Greensboro Percussion Ensemble. I love pizza, Chick-fil-a, Mexican food, the colors green, pink, purple, and black, sleeping late, fall, the month of October, reading, watching Netflix, running, and of course teaching music to my wonderful students.
This year in music, the students will be learning how to sing with correct technique, how to add purposeful movement to music, how to identify and demonstrate steady beat, how to read and write simple and complex rhythms, how to play these rhythms on classroom instruments, how to read and write pitch in the treble clef, and how to play songs on the recorder. Students will be learning American folk songs, American Patriotic songs, and music from all over the world. Students in the upper grades will be learning about instruments in the symphony orchestra and all about opera. 4th and 5th grade students will have the opportunity to further develop their music skills by participating the Simkins Elementary Chorus.
Not only will I be teaching music at Simkins this year, but I also will be helping with the very first Simkins Elementary Battle of the Books team and helping to coach the very first Simkins Elementary Go Far Team. I am very excited to be helping my teammates in these areas and I am even more excited to share three of my loves with my students: reading, running, and singing!
