About Mrs. Reid
I grew up in Jamestown and attended Florence Elementary, and Southwest Middle and High Schools. Therefore, being a teacher at Southwest Elementary feels like home to me. This will be my fourteenth year at Southwest and in fourth grade.
My husband, Dustin, and I have two children, one in second grade and the other in kindergarten. I am a graduate of Appalachian State University. My concentration was Social Studies and it is one of my favorite subjects to teach. I am a National Board certified teacher and have a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in literacy from High Point University.
In fourth grade, students will study concepts in Math, English Language Arts, and Science or Social Studies daily. We will alternate Science and Social Studies units throughout the year. Many real-world concepts are taught through all subjects. Students will study numbers and operations in the base ten system, geometry, fractions, and data and measurement in Math. In ELA, we will have research labs where students investigate and learn about the world around them through reading books relevant to their topic of study. Students are able to choose topics based on their interests. In Social Studies, students will learn about their great state of North Carolina. In Science, students will study animals, rocks and minerals, nutrition, and magnets and electricity.
I look forward to working together to make this a successful year for your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or (336) 819-2992.
