• Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! It is my hope that the children have continued to read and practice their math skills to stay sharp. I am Mrs. Cherry. This year, I will be teaching a combo class with 2nd and 3rd graders. I am delighted to have your children in my class! I am looking forward to a very successful year and I know you are as well. We will have many experiences and opportunities to learn and grow in the days ahead. Though this year promises to be a unique experience, it will be filled with motivation, lots of lessons, hands on activities and loads of student engagement.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Broadcasting from Winston Salem University. I also obtained a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from North Carolina A&T State University. I have received Montessori Training in both Lower and Upper Elementary Classrooms from The Center of Montessori Teacher Education. I have taught in the Alamance -Burlington City School System and the Guilford County School System in grades kindergarten through third for many years now.

Parents, I have high expectations for your children. I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations. You can help! The way to help is to check your child’s folder each day to see if schoolwork needs to be done, and if so, make sure your child completes the assignments.

With your assistance and support we can look forward to having a fantastic school year! My goals this year are to foster a love for reading, create a culture of lifelong learners, a community of critical thinkers, and guide the children to be focused and independent workers.

Communication is the key to a great parent- teacher relationship and making the goals happen. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Contact me on Class Dojo or by email at hawkind@gcsnc.com.

This is going to be a GREAT year!
