Mr. Blough's HomeroomWelcome to my website! I'm Mr. Blough. There are a few important aspects of this website. My home page simply contains some general info about myself. Please don't hesitate to use the "Email Mr. Blough" link if you have any questions or concerns. Emailing me is definitely the best way to get in contact with me. This is not to say that I never want to talk to anyone over the phone or in person, but I do check email several times daily. There is a "Calendar" section as well. If we are planning any trips, special events, meetings, etc, please consult this link to read about them.
We cover a variety of subjects and topics in our class. It mostly consists of reading, writing, speaking/listening and word study/spelling. More specifically, we read an assortment of literature, both fiction and nonfiction. We read short stories, novels, poems, plays, brochures, biographies, and many more. I like to have students write as much as possible. Sometimes this takes the form of journal writing or creating a story, other times a paragraph related to a story/theme, and sometimes the students are required to write full essays. Students definitely have a chance to demonstrate their creative side, as projects, posters, and other illustrations play a big role in our class. Our new reading program, American Reading Company (ARC), addresses all of these skills very nicely. Finally, every Monday the students receive a new language arts homework packet (usually just two pages, front to back). Unless otherwise stated, the students will have all week to complete it, and turn it in on Friday.
