At Northwest Middle School, we believe education is a team effort, and parents are an essential part of that team. You provide the foundation that allows children to grow and achieve beyond our expectations. We know that learning doesn't stop at the classroom door, and we encourage parents to participate in their child's education.

Absences
A note or email needs to be sent to the student’s homeroom teacher within 3 days of returning to school. The note needs to include student’s name, dates of and reason for the absence. Questions regarding absences go to Shawna Phelps (phelpss2@gcsnc.com) or Lalitha Ramana (ramanal@gcsnc.com). Please allow up to 3 business days for the absence/tardy to be corrected in our system. Please note, absences for family trips and/or sporting events are not excused absences.
Early Release Guidelines
Policy Addendum- Early Dismissal Notes: (see the GCS Student Handbook). GCS Policy states for no reason may a classroom be interrupted during the day.
We are only allowed to call for students without prior notice of dismissal at the end of the class period. Students who have notes, but forget to come to the office at the time indicated, will be called at the next class exchange.
Your student should know that a note explaining the early release should be signed in the front office before heading to class. The student is expected to politely leave the classroom at the expected time and go to the office to await pick up.
