Hello and welcome! I've been a Ben L. Smith High school Eagle since May 2010, and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time in the land of the GREEN and GOLD! I instruct students from all over the world in EL classes in 9th through 12th grades. This 2023-24 school year, I'll teach EL courses, Exploring Communication - Content Areas, ELD Tutorial and 3L's Approach to Literature.
My goal is to help all my students to work at their full potential, help them understand the ongoing value of becoming a life-long learner and discovering the benefits of excelling in their educational opportunities. My focus is to help students to learn effective speaking, listening, reading, writing and comprehension strategies to assist in their educational career in high school, college and their future careers.
I attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, or UNCG, and majored in English. While there, I was active in student organizations, played intramural softball and served as the English Club's vice president. With the other officers, we invited and met one of my favorite authors, Maya Angelou, to speak at our university. This was one of the highlights of my time in college.
As a child, I traveled the world with my military dad and family. I discovered a passion and an appreciation for learning about different countries and cultures. This led me to obtain my English Learners certification after college to facilitate English language learning for students from continents and countries from all over the world.
For fun, I enjoy various types of exercising, like hiking, Zumba, and yoga, researching and cooking fun, healthy and yummy dishes, reading magazine articles and novels, traveling and hanging out with family and friends, during the holidays or anytime. Nowadays, we even meet on Zoom, Skype, and Facetime to catch up with one another daily and weekly.
