Hello! I've been a Ben L. Smith High school Eagle since May 2010. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time in the land of the GREEN and GOLD! I instructed students from all over the world in EL classes and English Language Arts in 9th through 12th grades. This 2021 Fall semester, I'll be teaching English 10 to our students at Smith. Fall 2020-2021, I taught Exploring Communications-Content Areas (ECCA) and 3L's Approach to the Study of Science (3L's ATTSS), and in the spring, Sheltered English 9 and 12.
My goal is to help all my students to work at their full potential, help them to see the ongoing value of becoming a life long learner and discovering the benefits of excelling in their educational opportunities. My focus is to help students to learn effective speaking, listening, reading, writing and comprehension strategies to assist in their educational career in high school, college and their future careers.
I attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, or UNCG, and majored in English. While there, I served as the English Club's vice president, and with the other officers invited and met one of my favorite authors, Maya Angelou, to speak at our university. This was one of the highlights of my time in college.
As a child, I traveled the world with my military dad and family. I discovered a passion and an appreciation for learning about different countries and cultures. This lead me to obtaining my English Learners certification to facilitate English language learning for students from continents and countries from all over the world.
For fun I enjoy various types of exercising like hiking and Zumba, researching and cooking fun, healthy and yummy dishes, reading magazine articles and novels, traveling and hanging out with family and friends, during the holidays or anytime. Nowadays, we strongly rely on Zoom, Skype, and Facetime to catch up with one another.
