Hello fellow Vikings!
My name is Meredith Sneed and this is my 19th year in education. I consider it my passion, my mission and my dream, not just a career. I began my career in Forsyth County at Northwest Middle School (how ironic!) while living in Kernersville and moved in 2011 to Randolph County to be closer to my husband's family while teaching at Southwestern Randolph Middle School and later North Asheboro Middle. I stayed there until this December when I felt in my heart a change was coming. Little did I know it would bring me to this amazing school where I would be working with such an awesome group of young people!
I started my education at Gospel Light Christian School, a K-12 school and graduated with honors in 1996. I received a full paid academic and community service scholarship from Winston Salem State University where I graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration & Marketing and a minor in Psychology. I entered education immediately as a lateral entry teacher, teaching Business Education to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. I knew Business was not the right fit for me, so I went to NC State and received my certification in education so that I could teach other subjects. I began with Drama and Theatre and from there, Language Arts. I knew after several years my journey was not over, so I went back to graduate school at Appalachian State University where I received my Master's in Instructional Technology and Educational Media. I developed a passion for the social and emotional needs of gifted students and was awarded a scholarship to UNC Pembroke where I received my certification in Academically & Intelligently Gifted Education. I served as the AIG specialist for my entire school in Randolph County and loved the opportunity to watch these students soar to their full potential. I have also taught EC inclusion ELA classes for 10 years and love seeing students realize their ability to grow more and more each school year.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, painting, sewing and anything crafty! I have an Etsy shop and my local buyers keep me so busy I usually don't have time for orders! I also have an Associate's degree in Interior Design, which happens to be one of my favorite hobbies. My husband, Ivey, is a Bio Med Tech for Baxter Healthcare and travels all over the state saving lives through the technology of medicine. We live in Asheboro and enjoy traveling in our camper, fishing, boating and Netflix binging our favorite shows.
I look forward to a fabulous journey with you and your child. It is my goal that they leave my class every day feeling more positive about themselves, the world around them and of course, Language Arts. I believe that all students can and will succeed as long as they are given the right tools and the opportunity! Welcome to my world, the "Sneed Show;" it can't be paused, it can't be DVRed, and you can't rewind, so show up every day and give it all you've got!
