Welcome to Ms. Swanson's Science Classroom. 

I attended St. Cloud State University in Minnesota and graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a math minor. I then attended Capella University in Minnesota and earned my Masters in K-12 Education.

I now reside in North Carolina where I continued my career as an educator with Alamance Burlington School System as an RTI director. I then was a science/math instructor for them and then was offered a position at Eastern Guilford Middle School as a math instructor for the 2017-18 school year. I 2018-19 school year I changed to teaching science at Eastern. I continue teaching in science for the 2019-20 school year and I am looking forward to another great year!

I am a teacher who has very high expectations of all students and I believe that all students can learn the concepts being taught. However, with that being said, the student has to do their part also. I have over 130 students I am responsible for so that means a lot of different personalities and a lot of papers that need to be corrected each week. 

Some things I would like to ask of the parents, please send some glue sticks with the students as they need them at least once a week for their science notebooks. If the students are not able to glue in their papers they will be lost. These papers are needed for the entire year for them to look back at when they need to be reminded of concepts for the final test at the end of the year. Please do not send “bottled glue”, they do not use it appropriately, they use it to put on their hands and then peel it off (yes they still do this in school).

I also would like it if you could, each night, ask your child what your child is doing in class and have them explain what they have learned each day, this will help them understand better and form better questions about the world around them. I believe that when a person can teach a concept they will know the concept.  They will have homework occasionally, so please do not let them tell you they don’t, instead ask them to show you that they have “finished” for their homework. Also, please check power school every week, that way there are no surprises when progress reports and report cards come out.

However, there are meetings I have to attend during the week, but you surly can try to call, if you don’t reach me please leave me a message, I will get back to you! Thank you so much for sharing your child with me for just about ninety minutes a day! Like I tell the students, I am their ninety minute mom everyday and I take that job very seriously!
