I am India Burns the Visual Arts teacher at Eastern.  I have been teaching art since 2001 and have a BFA in Fine Arts and a Master's in Educational Leadership.  I am so excited about this school year and working with your child as we explore the world of art.  Students will focus on art as a form of visual communication.  Students will study and experiment with the elements of art (line, shape, color, space,value, texture, and form) in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional work.  Students will also learn how to apply the principles of design (rhythm, movement, balance, contrast, proportion, emphasis, and unity) in their artwork.  They will continually reflect on their thoughts (verbally & written) concerning art history, artists, concepts, and cultural traditions.  Students in 7th & 8th grade are expected to practice their drawing and composition skills in their sketchbooks through out the year.
