I have been an educator at Northern for two years. I attended the University of North Carolina Greensboro where I obtained a B.A degree in Special Education and am licensed as highly qualified to teach Middle School language arts. I believe that all students can be successful in school if given the rights tools. Each student is different, as is the way in which they effectively learn. My goal as an educator is to provide students with the support, materials and strategies they need to be successful, as well as challenge them, so that they can continue to grow and reach their full potential.

As of last year, we added the American Reading Company (ARC) framework to our curriculum. The ARC format of my ELA course is focused on personalized goals, activities, and materials for each student.  Students work on year-long power goals using leveled texts and assignments in both the literature and informational text domains.  Our whole-class units featuring grade-level core texts focus on the American Revolution (social studies informational texts), science fiction (literary texts), and energy (science informational texts).
