The best foundation, paths, programs and support

GCS is here for every learner and every family in all the ways that connect to student success. We’re a standout district in foundational learning areas like literacy, mathematical thinking and civic engagement. We offer specialized programs in in-demand fields like STEM, robotics and health sciences. For many years, including 2023, we’ve boasted the number one public high school in the nation (The Early College at Guilford), along with other highly ranked schools in the arts, global studies and language immersion. We’re developing a national model for literacy for our multilingual learners, and our newcomer schools are thriving learning communities that prepare immigrant and refugee students for success in the American educational system. We also provide career pathways and apprenticeships, hundreds of athletics and extracurricular activities, high-quality instructional materials in every classroom, transportation, meals, telehealth clinics — and countless solutions to support students and families throughout the PreK to high school years.

GCS is a shining example of public education because we reflect the people and communities we serve.

We push ourselves to continually respond to the needs of our community and offer the very best in education because we deeply care for the students and families of Guilford County, a place we proudly call home.

Data-driven approaches

In addition to evidence-based instructional materials based on state and national education standards, GCS school teams use data to pinpoint where students are thriving and where they require additional focus. Data helps us to know how your student is performing and what they need to be successful so that we can provide them with any support they need.
