Guilford County Schools State Testing

All End-of-Grade (EOG) and End-of-Course (EOC) tests are administered as online tests.

The State Testing Department is responsible for:

The implementation of the North Carolina Testing Program; Training, supervising, and monitoring of staff assigned to state testing programs;
Ensuring that Guilford County Schools' employees understand and follow the Testing Code of Ethics, which ensures that the district adheres to all state requirements for uniformity in test administrations;
Providing technical assistance on state test administrations;
Preparing and providing materials for presentations to district leaders and other community stakeholders regarding the state's testing program.

GCS School Report Card Welcome Letter 2024

Dear Guilford County Families and Community Members,

This site provides important data related to student achievement and progress from the 2023-24 school year. Thank you for taking the time to review our students’ growth.

The 2023-24 school year saw marked academic progress for Guilford County Schools. Last school year, 77 schools demonstrated increased proficiency, and 92 schools met or exceeded growth. In fact, GCS schools had close to a 50% decrease in the number of schools not meeting growth compared to 2022-23.

Our graduation rates for 2023-24 were the highest in GCS history at 92.2%, which was also higher than the state’s and other large school districts in NC. Chronic absenteeism rates also decreased, with rates for all grade spans and student groups down.

We are so proud of the growth demonstrated by our district in the 2023-24 school year. It takes a team of skilled educators, leaders and other frontline workers to accomplish these strides in academic achievement.

DELAYED SCORES LETTER FOR HIGH SCHOOLS – ALL PARENTS

December 2024

Dear High School families:

Guilford County Schools wants to make sure all of our students are receiving the best education possible. To evaluate this, most students take exams at the end of each semester.

All high school students enrolled in Math 1, Math 3, English II and Biology during the Fall Block will take the traditional End-of-Course (EOC) tests.

All districts in North Carolina rely on the state to score some EOC exams. While scoring multiple-choice tests can be done quickly, some tests include written answers. Tests with these items must be sent to the state for scoring.

English II North Carolina EOC Exams have written answers that take longer to score, and we will not receive test data from the state for this course for 7 - 8 days after tests are submitted.

Since the scores might not be available until after we send report cards home, students might receive an “Incomplete” in this course. As soon as we receive the scores and conversions from the state, we will immediately calculate final grades and send out a second report card. This delay is not unique to GCS; every student in North Carolina who is taking these courses is impacted.

We appreciate your understanding as we work with the state to get these scores as soon as we can.
