Clubs & Student Organizations

Interests grow into incredible opportunities. Explore every possibility.

When students pursue interests beyond the classroom, they connect more deeply with school, their peers and their own potential — and Guilford County Schools offers dozens of ways to make that happen. Across every grade level, you’ll find students joining clubs, stepping into leadership, leading service projects, building robots, debating big ideas and discovering talents they didn’t know they had.

These experiences are powerful extensions of learning. Clubs and student organizations help students collaborate with new peers, form lasting bonds, solve problems and stick with hard things. They build confidence and begin to see their potential.

Here are just a few of the ways students can jump in and get involved:

  • STEM-focused organizations such as FIRST LEGO League, Science Olympiad, Science Fair and Girls Who Game provide hands-on learning and open doors to STEM careers growing right here in Guilford County
  • Language and cultural clubs deepen skills in Spanish, French, Latin and more while helping students broaden their perspectives and connect with new communities
  • Civic and service-learning groups give students meaningful opportunities to contribute, lead projects and strengthen their schools and neighborhoods
  • Debate, Model UN and academic teams build communication, collaboration and critical thinking as students tackle complex topics together
  • Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) including DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) link learning with real career pathways and leadership experiences

No matter their passions — or if they’re still discovering them — there’s a place for every student to belong and grow.

Middle school students from across the region gather at The Academy at Lincoln for a FIRST LEGO League Regional Qualifier, where teams test their robots and innovation projects. Students compete from elementary through high school, and participation has proven long-term impact. FIRST LEGO alumni are more likely to pursue STEM degrees and careers, with especially strong outcomes for girls and students from historically underrepresented groups.

JROTC students practice leadership in action — building discipline, teamwork, confidence and a strong sense of purpose while contributing to their school and community.

How to start a club

Have an idea for a new club? You can make it happen. Students do it all the time! Talk with your school’s administration or a trusted teacher to share your idea and learn what steps are required at your school. Every campus has its own process, but most new clubs begin when students gather a small group of interested members and connect with a staff advisor who can help guide you. From there, you’ll outline your purpose, plan meeting times and get approval to get started.

Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) and the Guilford Guarantee

CTSO programs turn student interests into launchpads for careers — and they’re a key way GCS brings the Guilford Guarantee to life. Groups like DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), HOSA (Future Health Professionals) help students earn industry-recognized credentials, build workplace skills and grow their confidence — all key outcomes of the Guilford Guarantee’s promise that every graduate will complete college credit, a work-based learning experience or an industry credential at no cost to families. CTSOs turn interests into action that students carry into life after high school.
