2026 Academic All-Star Camp (AASC)

AASC Camp Overview

Grade: Rising 9tH

The Academic All-Star Camp (AASC), established in 2001, provides rising high school freshmen with opportunities to prepare for a successful transition to high school. During the camp, students engage in hands-on, problem-based learning experiences designed to build the skills needed for success in Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. District high school teachers with experience in Honors and AP courses deliver an interactive curriculum in students’ selected focus area (reading, math, science, or social studies). Students are encouraged to choose a focus area that will challenge them and allow them to apply a learner’s mindset to real-world applications.

During the 2026 Academic All-Star Camp, students will engage in lessons centered around The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, with a focus on personal leadership, goal setting, and life-ready skills. Through these lessons, students explore concepts such as being proactive, setting meaningful goals, prioritizing important tasks, building positive relationships, and communicating effectively. Students also participate in activities that promote collaboration, problem-solving, and self-reflection while learning strategies to manage time, make responsible decisions, and maintain balance across academic, social, and personal areas of their lives. AASC teachers support students in making connections between these habits and their future academic, personal, and career goals.

The camp also includes leadership development activities that help students develop self-advocacy and executive functioning skills needed for school success. These activities are often structured as team-based challenges where students collaborate to solve problems that promote school success. Much of the leadership curriculum is facilitated by camp counselors, who play a vital role in the overall camp experience.

All students who accept the invitation to participate in AASC must attend Monday through Thursday for the full two-week session. Lunch is provided; however, this is subject to change based on district decisions.
