American Indian Education

  • GCS American Indian Education Program supports Native American students to be academically achieving citizens who are prepared to be successful in a globally competitive environment.

Some ways the AIE Program supports our students and families:

    • Culture Activities
We provide opportunities for students to engage in regular culture activities facilitated by Native community members.
    • Counseling and Mentoring
As Native people, there is strength in community and being with our people. Culturally-relevant counseling shows to increase self-esteem, mental health, and confidence.
    • College and Career Readiness
We work with our High School to work on college/career planning, coordinate college tours, and assist with financial aid and tribal enrollment processes.
    • Family Advocacy and Support
We work to help American Indian families navigate a number of stressors and/or get connected to others who can help to resolve the issue.
    • Classroom/District Equity Initiatives
Through sharing resources, facilitating training, and teaching lessons, we are available to collaborate with teachers and district staff to support the education of all students.

Noteworthy Native Americans

Often in history books, it shows Native people looking stoic and from a long time ago. It's important to fill in that gap. Just like all peoples, Native people and communities have evolved into thriving places. This resource will hopefully give you a glimpse of some phenomenal contemporary Native people doing great things in their communities. Click their images to learn more about them!
