Choice & Alternate Programs

GCS is a national leader in providing specialized schools and instructional programs designed to meet the educational needs of a culturally diverse citizenship. The district offers parents and guardians a wide variety of choices for their students’ education—choices that build on or stimulate educational interests, foster academic achievement, and support cultural and ethnic diversity. Students who are visual or performing artists, interested in the sciences, or enjoy small learning environments can all find a place designed just for them. The next few pages of this book outline the different schools and programs available to our students. For more information, speak with your school counselor or browse our Choice Schools website.

Early Middle Colleges (EMCs) are specialized high school programs that provide motivated students with the opportunity to earn college credit and an associate’s degree while completing high school. EMCs are designed for students who will benefit from a smaller, more supportive environment that emphasizes independence, purpose-driven learning, and real-world college experiences. The goal of these programs is to expand access to higher education—especially for students who may be the first in their families to attend college, come from underrepresented backgrounds, or seek a more personalized academic pathway.
