We know our parents are our partners in their children’s education, and Guilford Parent Academy aims to provide educational excellence for all of our children by informing parents about their role in their child's success. Guilford Parent Academy uses a number of strategies to reach parents, including FREE workshops and events on topics such as planning for college, helping with homework, bullying and staying healthy.

Our FREE workshops and classes are available across Guilford County, including at our schools and at community locations, thanks to our creative staff and community support. We work hard to develop workshops that are aligned with our parents' needs, and are conveniently located near their home and workplace.

Guilford Parent Academy partners with more than 70 community organizations and businesses throughout Guilford County that share information, facilitate and host events and provide other in-kind/financial resources.

Power School Parent Portal App Instructions

The PowerSchool Parent Portal is part of the state’s student information system, called PowerSchool. The Parent Portal is part of the state's HomeBase online portal for parents, students and educators to access information in one place, with one login.

Parents have online, real-time access to information, including academic grades for students in third grade and above, attendance and tardy records. PowerSchool also provides access to detailed classroom assignments, school bulletins and even personalized messages from your child’s teacher.

LOG IN TO THE POWERSCHOOL PARENT PORTAL

New Users

To use PowerSchool Parent Portal, go to Parent Portal Access Request Form to obtain your secure access ID and password, which should be used to create your account. Once that’s complete, you’ll receive an email instructing you how to create your account, and then you will be able to manage your account information and link students to the account. You’ll need your child’s unique Student ID number, which is located on his or her report card.

Keeping in line with its mission to “bridge the gaps for student success by engaging parents and involving them in their children’s education,” Guilford Parent Academy offers a wide array of print, in-person and digitally focused resources for parents and educators.

Brainfuse makes homework help more enjoyable, efficient and rewarding for parents and children. These digital programs also ensure that parents stay up-to-date on the latest methods and trends in education—as a lot has changed since parents were in school themselves!

Guilford Parent Academy gives you access to our free online resources, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Help your children practice reading, work on math skills, read eBooks, begin conversations about emotional topics and more!

There's even resources for parents! Parents can access GED prep, U.S. citizenship test prep, Microsoft Office support and career resources, including popular job search links. Parents can also get live, online interview practice from trained job coaches, and receive resume and cover letter assistance from trained resume experts.

It's free and easy to access. All classes, learning experiences, online content and videos are free as well, thanks to our community partners.

Brainfuse Help Now Tutoring
HelpNow is an all-in-one suite of tutoring services designed for a wide range of academic needs, whether it’s tackling a tough homework problem, mastering a particular topic, or writing a paper. HelpNow services include expert academic tutoring and self-study tools. Students access live, on-demand academic help and state-aligned skills building lessons from expert tutors. With HelpNow, tutors and students communicate in real time in our online classroom by typing, drawing and marking-up lessons and web content. Plus, students can use a secure file sharing feature in the writing lab to submit writing assignments to writing tutors any time of the day. The Brainfuse full-service test center offers practice tests for all levels in math, reading and writing as well as college preparatory tests including the SAT.

Brainfuse Adult Learning

Since we know many parents are lifelong learners, either going back to school to finish high school, complete undergraduate and graduate degrees or those of us who just love to learn, parents can receive live one-on-one expert academic tutoring as well through the Brainfuse Adult Learning Center. 	The Smithsonian Ocean Portal focuses on everything ocean. Explore ocean life, ecosystems, and the human connection through vibrant visuals and articles.
	Interactive games, videos, fill-in quizzes and more await you at National Geographic Kids. There is fun for the entire family in geography.
	The NASA Image and Video Library offers families online activities, e-books, podcasts and other content focusing on STEM education. Tour the universe through topics such as humans in space, moon to mars, earth, space tech, flight, solar system and beyond.
	Khan Academy provides free K-12 activities designed to increase learning in subjects including math grammar, science, history just to name a few. Sign up for a free account.
	Do you have a love for computer science? Code.org expands access to computer science to K-12 students and families. Try out fun computer science tutorials and even build your own projects.
	Scholastic gives K - 9 families an online learning platform with access to various resources such as daily lessons, worksheets, printables, and more. Families take a new learning journey each week with exercises to encourage critical thinking and discovery.
	UNCTV offers PBS Kids for Parents to help families find ways to interact through learning. Parents with children from birth to age 5 explore activities, games, and applications to keep the entire family learning at home. Categories include crafts, experiments, recipes and more. Take a tour of family fun through topics including emotions and self-awareness, social skills, character, literacy, math, science, and the arts.

Dual Generation Workforce Initiative

Guilford County Schools partnered with the world's leading IT association, CompTIA and GuilfordWorks to help parents and guardians of Guilford County Schools get an IT job, even without experience. The participants completed a 12-week CompTIA live Instructor-Led training which will now lead them to positions in cyber security, data analytics, and support specialist. Congratulations!

Guilford Parent Academy offers a dynamic set of workshops, seminars and classes at various locations throughout the community designed to help our families be successful. The goal is to increase parent participation in seminars by making them accessible, affordable and well-publicized in all regions of the county. Aligning with our four major strands: Academic Success, Tools for Parents, Health & Wellness, Personal Development & Family Support, Guilford Parent Academy aims to build independent families, healthier citizens and better-educated young people. Accomplishing this goal will create a stronger community as well.
