Schools of the Future

How we support them today ensures they’ll be ready for tomorrow.

When your child graduates from high school, they will enter a workforce and world with new challenges and opportunities. We will ensure they are ready. As a district committed to offering schools of the future, GCS has a vision for offering students the best possible facilities, technologies and resources. We achieve this in partnership with our community, from planning new, innovative spaces to responding to the emerging needs of an evolving workforce. Learn more about how we support your student and family by continually cultivating schools of the future.

New schools and reimagined learning spaces

Guilford County residents have shown incredible support by voting for school bonds, enabling GCS to invest in new schools and reimagined learning spaces for our students.

New building projects allow us to create spaces that make learning collaborative, flexible and customizable depending on the needs of the students. They let in light, create enhanced security and aspire to green building standards where possible. Most importantly, they consider careers of the future and what our students need today to be ready for tomorrow. Stay updated with our progress on the GCS Bond Projects web page

The bonds help us reshape and re-envision learning while addressing decades of critical infrastructure needs. Many GCS schools were built years before the moon landing and deserve our investment; the 2018 tornado that ripped through our county affected several others. Whatever the circumstance facing each school, GCS carefully assesses every building to determine what needs to be restored, renovated or rebuilt. View our Facilities Master Plan for more details.

Strong community partnerships and business connections

In addition to hiring certified teachers who are education experts, GCS works closely with local organizations and business leaders to inform the student experience, guide our programming and even serve as mentors. The GCS Business Advisory Council, which features member representation from all major local industries, helps guide work-based and service-learning opportunities for students. Learn more about the hands-on experiences that come out of these critical partnerships, from taking college courses at GTCC through Career and College Promise to pursuing apprenticeships through Guilford Apprenticeship Partners (GAP). Future-ready skill development

GCS emphasizes skills that help students graduate as responsible citizens prepared to succeed in higher education or the career of their choice.

Whatever ways the world and economy evolve, they’ll have the foundation to thrive.

They’re critical thinkers, communicators and collaborators. They can adapt to the pace of change and take personal responsibility. They empathize with others and develop a learner’s mindset that makes them curious, persistent and innovative. They write with confidence, make compelling arguments and understand why it’s important to serve others.

Technology support for students and families

Every GCS student receives a device, but that’s just the beginning. We’ve created a wealth of tools and resources to ensure your student is connected, able to access special learning programs and knows where to find help if they’ve lost their charging cord or need extra practice in a specific subject.

GCS offers dozens of teaching and learning apps to support student success
Scroll through what’s available based on grade level and subject area to find learning activities and platforms that help your child advance in reading, STEM, presentation-making and much more.  Families, we’re also here for you with technology resources that help you manage your student’s screen time, check grades and attendance, understand bus schedules, and access critical information from our Guilford Parent Academy — visit the Family Tech Toolkit for support. From helping you establish an internet connection to setting you up for virtual/blended learning, we want to ensure that you don’t just have technology; you harness its power to help your student and family thrive.

High-connection, personalized instruction

Gen Z and Gen Alpha students are growing up in the age of smartphones, and technology is their way of life. GCS keeps students engaged in learning in ways that are relevant to their digital native lives — as a platform to present their ideas, make arguments, and collaborate, for example.

Technology also lets us personalize learning and provide students with real-time, on-demand support outside of class.

If your child struggles with homework, they can re-listen to the lesson. If your family needs homework flexibility because your student has a job or after-school activities, they can access resources online when convenient. Technology even allows for more individualized attention — a teacher can work with a small group of students while others use high-quality digital learning tools to reinforce topics and address specific learning needs.

Choices that lead to exciting paths

GCS students have access to programs in in-demand industries like advanced manufacturing and the health sciences — fields we know are critical to our community and the future. Plus, the GCS facilities and technologies that support these programs are pretty exciting, from our Pharmacy Lab to our Aviation Academy.

We’re not just preparing our students for the world — we bring the world to them. Every single student has the opportunity to take college classes, attain workforce certification or credential, and engage in internships and apprenticeships (some paid!). GCS creates valuable, hands-on experience, whether they’re going on to college enrollment, employment, enlistment in the military or entrepreneurship.
