Hello and welcome to Technology, Engineering and Design 2020!

My name is Mr. Holder, or you can call me Coach Holder if you prefer.  Here is a little information about me.  I graduated from Grimsley High School in 1997 and went on to get a degree from Brevard College in Business, History and Archaeology.  I used that degree in so many ways and ended up in Civil Engineering.  I worked as a land surveyor for several years before being recruited to run my own division of Field Engineering and Quality Control for Skanska Construction Management.   The company, at the time, was the second largest construction management firm in the world.  We built major projects such as: The Raleigh Convention Center ($175 Million), UNC Cancer Hospitals ($150 Million), and various Duke Hospital Editions.  I garnered a pretty wide background in engineering and technology.  I did eventually find that I love teaching the craft more than I love the stress of large jobsites.  I am here to help your kids in any way possible!

When I am not working, I love to fish, hunt, kayak, play various sports and play with my Australian Cattle Dog Dingo.  I look forward to getting to know each student likes and dislikes, and personal hobbies. We share so we can see similarities and learn from each other.

Our classes 1, 2, and 3 are designed to benefit your children in many ways during their future work experiences.  You may sometimes hear Mr. Riley and myself call our classes TED.  TED is an abbreviation for Technology Engineering and Design.  We want students to understand technological trends as well as how to work well in a system and be troubleshooter/problem solvers.  Critical thinking will carry students far in the expanding workforce. We don't plan on being work intensive but do expect our students to do the work.  Most of the grading they will have total control of.  Parents are encouraged to call if they have a problem but please look at the work turned in to see what has been done first to better understand the situation.  I would prefer students to contact me first with a grade situation so we can work it out.  My number is 336-454-7400 ext.  1761.  My email address is holderm2@gcsnc.com.
