Ms. Ashley Young

Welcome Viking students and families to the 2018-2019 school year!  I am so excited to serve as Principal at Northwest Middle School!  I look forward to continuing the amazing things that the students, staff, and community have accomplished here at NWM.

This is an outstanding school, and the high expectations and standards that have been established contributes to the success of our students.

I am excited to meet the students and families, and I know we will have a fantastic school year.  I want to encourage each family to be involved with our school community, and take an active role in their student’s education.  It is this collaboration between our hard working staff, and our students and their families, that will allow our school to continue to grow and thrive.  We will work as a team to provide each student with every opportunity to be successful, and to maintain a caring and inclusive environment.

I have been in education for 16 years.  I started my career as a Middle School Special Education Teacher in Guilford County.  After 4 years, I transferred to Northwest High School, where I served as both a teacher, then an Assistant Principal.  I was Principal at McMichael High School in Rockingham County before coming back to Guilford County this school year.  I received a degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  I then earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from UNCG in 2009.  I received my M.S. Certification from UNCG in 2013.  I have a daughter, Carly who is a Junior at Northwest High School.

It is my priority to be available to all stakeholders in our school.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at or 336.605.3333.

I look forward to fantastic school year!
