Health Sciences Strand
Health Science Education is a broad curriculum with meaningful instruction for and about health care careers. Health Science Education plays a major role in meeting present and predicted needs for health care professionals within a health care delivery system characterized by diversity and changing technologies. Health Science Education is designed to prepare graduates as competitors in the health care industry. Students can develop and apply leadership, social, civic, and health care skills through Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), the Career and Technical Student Organization for health science education.
Foundation of Health Science
Foundation of Health Science is designed to assist potential health care workers in their role and function as a health team member. Topics include medical terminology, history of health care, health care agencies, ethics, legal responsibilities, cultural awareness, communication, leadership, medical math, and career exploration.
Health Science I
Health Science I introduces students to the health field and the concepts of personal, family, and community health and disease control. Additional topics include human behavior, medical terminology, physiology, diseases/disorders diagnoses, treatments, technological innovations, and career opportunities in the health field.
Health Science II
Health Science II expands their understanding of financing and trends of health care agencies, essentials of wellness, legal and ethical issues, teamwork and effective communication. This course uses the National Healthcare Foundations Standards of Accountability Criteria. Students will have the opportunity to earn C.P.R. and First Aid Certification.
BRAND NEW- Emergency Medical Technology 1 and 2
Emergency Medical Technology 1 and 2 are designed to prepare students to become fully certified Emergency Medical Technician upon completion of the 2 courses.
Nursing Fundamentals
Nursing Fundamentals is designed to prepare potential health care workers to become effective and efficient multi-skilled health team members. Emphasis is placed on the development of proficiency in employability, emergency care, safety, clerical, and health care skills. Students are taught nursing skills necessary to become a Certified Nursing Assistant I. This course includes a clinical internship at local health care facilities.
Sports Medicine I
Sports Medicine I is designed to provide a detailed study of modern athletic training. Special emphasis is placed on human anatomical and physiological systems of the body.
Sports Medicine II
Sports Medicine II is designed for students who have an interest in Allied Health Career fields, such as, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or related fields. This course is also designed for students who would like to study advanced fields of medicine related to orthopedics. Special emphasis is placed on the application of principles learned in Sports Medicine I.
