Mrs. Samantha C. Troxler
My name is Samantha Troxler, and I am excited to be part of the Red Raider family!
I grew up near Greensboro, NC, and I attended school in the Guilford County Schools system. I earned both of my degrees from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. In 2010, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in History, and in 2012 I received my Master of Arts in European History with a concentration in the World Wars and Holocaust studies. I have also worked for eight years inside higher education, which includes my current position as a member of associate faculty at Ashford University. My undergraduate courses have included both European and American historical narratives, and I particularly enjoy teaching about the modern era.
During my academic career, I had the great pleasure of studying under Dr. Mark Spaulding who received his Ph.D. in German history from Harvard University. I also enjoyed guidance from Dr. Michael Seidman who focuses on understanding socialist revolutionary movements in Europe, and Dr. Tanny who enjoys the position of UNC Wilmington’s Block Distinguished Scholar in Jewish History. My completed graduate thesis is available electronically at UNC Wilmington’s Randall Library and is titled Little Soldiers: The Great War’s Impact on Youth in Great Britain and Germany, 1900-1933. This research is authored under my maiden name, Mayhew. I also studied abroad and participated in an intensive language course in Bremen, Germany at the Hochschule Bremen. Following that experience, I developed my passion for traveling, and I have visited Germany, Switzerland, France, Scotland, and Italy with Dr. Larry Usilton, Professor of Medieval Studies at UNC Wilmington.
In 2016, I began my career with Guilford County Schools because I felt a calling to help students at the secondary level become better prepared for higher education. I was excited to join the Red Raider family in 2017, and I am passionate about helping the students of TW Andrews High School succeed in their historical studies. I currently teach American History I, II and AP US History. I received my APUSH certification from the AP Institute of the Cascades in Bend, Oregon in 2017. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, and I love playing with my mini Schnauzer, Skyler.
“In history, as in traveling, men usually see only what they already had in their own minds; and few learn much from history, who do not bring much with them to its study.” -John Stuart Mill
