  • I am excited to begin my 9th year as General Greene's Media Specialist! I enjoy teaching students 21st century skills, preparing them to be future-ready!  Students in media classes learn about digital citizenship and how to explore the library collection--discovering printed and digital reading material for information and enjoyment!

Before I became a media specialist, I was a technology assistant for Guilford County Schools.  I earned my undergraduate and Master of Library and Information Studies Degree from UNCG.

Battle of the Books stacked books
  • Students interested in trying out for General Greene's Elementary 2022-23 Battle of the Books Team may join this Nearpod for book trailers for the 15 books on the EBOB Reading List!  Students who are seriously interested in trying out for the team should attempt to read 5 of the books on the list this summer. 🙂

To join the Nearpod, students go to :  join.nearpod.com and enter the code: GYTNW

If you are interested in checking out these books, go to the public library or check out NC Kids Digital Library, or you may purchase some of the books at Barnes and Noble.  We will have copies of these books to share at General Greene in the fall.  Meeting dates are to be announced.

EBOB is a reading competition among elementary schools in Guilford County.  Students are quizzed on details from the stories.  The tricky part is that there are books that are very similar to one another so students have to be VERY detailed oriented.  Here is an example of an EBOB question from the book, "Fish In a Tree" by Lynda Mullaly Hunt.

In which book does a character wear the same dark t-shirt every day?

So, you see knowing the plot of the story is important but very tiny details are quizzed at the EBOB competition.  If you like detective work, you will LOVE EBOB!  Are you up for the challenge?!!!

If you think you are interested, send an email to Mrs. Collins:  collins4@gcsnc.com

    Have a great summer!
