    The rest of the week will run on a normal schedule, though we're finishing up end-of-grade tests in 3-5, so that will change things up a little during the school day.

    Good afternoon Eagle parents,

    Here are a few mid-week updates for you.

    NE HIGH SENIORS
    We had a blast today lining our hallway to hoot and holler for the graduating seniors from NE High School as they paraded through our halls.  It was great for the seniors and also a concrete example to our students that graduating from high school is an important milestone they are working towards.

    STAFF APPRECIATION
    Thank you to Monticello United Church of Christ (our across the street neighbors) for providing a delicious sweet treat for our teachers.  We appreciate our ongoing partnership with them!

    TILE AND GROUT
    If you have any expertise in working with tile and grout and would be willing to help us, please let me know.  Our 5th graders are making personalized tiles that we want to permanently put in our hallway as a remembrance of them.  We just need someone to help us do it right so the tiles stay up!

    Graduation Walk

    NE ALTA ANCIANOS
    Nos divertimos mucho hoy en nuestro pasillo para gritar y gritar a los estudiantes de último año que se graduaban de la escuela secundaria NE mientras desfilaban por nuestros pasillos.     Thank you for all the appreciation you shared with our staff last week. One of the reasons this is such a wonderful place to learn and to work is the strongly positive relationship we have with parents. Thank you for that!

    Thanks for a super K-2 performance, art show, and field day last week. Shout out to Ms. Anderson, Casto, and Rakestraw for coordinating those events and for all the other staff and parents who helped make the magic happen!

    This week is a normal 5-day week, BUT it is our STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK. Please take a moment this week to let the staff who work with your child know that you appreciate them. And don't forget that our front office, custodians and cafeteria team all also work every day to make sure your child's experience at MBSE is magnificent.

    Don't forget that our Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade performance is tonight at 6:30. We'll also have children's artwork on display, so please be sure to visit the Art Show.

    FIELD DAY TOMORROW
    Field Day is Friday May 5th:

    If you planned to volunteer, Mrs. Rakestraw has already sent information home with your child about when, where and what you will be doing. Thanks so much for your help!

    Friday is Field Day, so be sure your child:
    *dresses to be outside,
    *wears shoes they can run in,
    *brings sunscreen, and
    *(optional) brings a hat for face and neck shade.

    We're all reading a book this week about feelings and are encouraging students to dress in specific colors.

    SPIRIT NIGHT FUNDRAISER TUESDAY 4/18

    Please grab a bite to eat at Texas Roadhouse in Burlington on Tuesday and encourage your friends to do the same.  If you dine in, leave your receipt in the bucket on your way out or, if you order to-go online, tell the person who brings you your food that your with us.  10% of all our purchases will go to our PTO and could potentially win a free meal for our staff!

    SAVE THE DATE FOR THE TALENT SHOW - Fri 4/28 @ 6:30

    We have 22 amazing acts from Kindergarten to 5th grade for our talent show on Friday 4/28.  We'll also have artwork 2nd through 5th graders on display before and after the performance.

    --Admission for children 12 and under is free.
    --For adults, admission is just $2.
    --Tickets will be sold at the door.
    --Doors will open at 5:45 for the Art Show
    --The Talent Show will begin at 6:30.

    WHEN TO STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL

    It is critical that students come to school every day they possibly can.  There are times, though, when it's not safe for others and your child should stay at home.  The graphic shown in this post describes those situations and when it's safe to come back to school.

    CUÁNDO QUEDARSE EN CASA DESDE LA ESCUELA

    PICTURE DAY TOMORROW (WED)
    We'll take spring pictures and class pictures tomorrow (Wed 3/29).  Every student will bring home proofs in the next several weeks so you can decide whether you want to order.  There are no makeups.

    NO SCHOOL FRIDAY
    Friday is a teacher workday, so there his no school.  Thursday is the last student day this week.

    BOOK FAIR & SOMEONE SPECIAL LUNCHES
    Here's the book fair schedule this week

    Wed & Thu mornings:  7:10-7:25
    Wed afternoon:  2:10-3:30 

    Parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles, etc. are invited to have a "someone special" lunch their MBSE student and then visit the book fair. Here's the schedule:

    SPIRIT NIGHT
    Our next PTO Sprit Night is this coming Monday (4/3).  Stop by Uptown Charlie's (5828 N Church St) anytime between 4 and 8.  Invite friends and neighbors to do the same.  10% of the proceeds during that time will go to our PTO.

    EAGLE RUN
    In 10 days, we raised $3,413 for the Eagle Run!  That's the first run since before COVID and the first one PTO has run on their own.  The total costs were $400 and that included things that the PTO will continue to use beyond just the Eagle Run.  So, it was a very profitable venture and one that students and staff thoroughly enjoyed.  Thank you for supporting it - we look forward to growing it next year!

    5TH GRADERS - PARENT NIGHT AT NE MIDDLE
    NE Middle is holding parent night from 5:30-6:30 on Thu 3/30.  This is an opportunity to visit the campus, meet the staff, and learn about middle school.

    DÍA DE FOTOS MAÑANA (MIÉRCOLES)
    Tomaremos fotos de primavera y fotos de clase mañana (miércoles 3/29). Cada estudiante traerá pruebas a casa en las próximas semanas para que pueda decidir si desea hacer un pedido. No hay maquillajes.

    VIERNES NO HAY CLASES
    El viernes es un día de trabajo del maestro, por lo que no hay escuela. El jueves es el último día del estudiante esta semana.

    FERIA DEL LIBRO Y ALMUERZOS ESPECIALES PARA ALGUIEN
    Este es el horario de la feria del libro de esta semana

    CARRERA DEL ÁGUILA

    EAGLE RUN
    Please continue to encourage and support your child in getting sponsorships for the Eagle Run this Friday. Sponsorships can be a dollar amount per minute of running / walking (there will be 35 minutes in total) or they can just be a flat amount. Online sponsorships can be taken at http://rb2.me . Check or cash sponsorships can be recorded on a paper log and turned in on Friday.

    We'll recognize students who meet daily challenges over the morning announcements and they'll earn a cool MBSE wristband. We can monitor online donations, but to submit the donations your child has on their donation log for the challenge, text a photo of the log to the PTO at (336) 850-0558 before 6am on the date of the challenge.

    Good afternoon MBSE parents,
     
    Coming home this afternoon with your children is information about the Eagle Run, our PTO's spring fundraiser. That information is also linked here.
     
    The run is Friday, March 24 and the goal is for students to get family and friends to sponsor them for each minute they walk or run. Our school goal is to raise $8,000 so the PTO can continue to do all the things they do to make MBSE a wonderful place to learn.
     
    In previous years before COVID, the PTO used a fundraising company to coordinate the run, but that took thousands of dollars off the top of the funds raised. This year, PTO is coordinating the run themselves, so 100% of the money raised will go to our school.
     
    Please have a look at the information and support your child in getting sponsorships for the run. Online sponsorships can be made at http://rb2.me. Questions about the run can be directed to MBSEaglesPTO@gmail.com.

    Buenas tardes padres de MBSE,

    Good morning parents!

    We are excited to announce that we're holding a student Talent Show on Friday, April 28 at 6:30 pm.

    All students are encouraged to consider performing. They may sing a song, play an instrument, do a dance, tell jokes, read a poem, do magic tricks, do gymnastics, or perform any special talent. Students may perform individually or in a group.

    Applications are due to Ms. Anderson by Friday, March 10.

    Auditions are Thursday, March 16 and Friday, March 17 immediately after school in the music room.

    We can't wait to see your children show their special talents!

    VALENTINE'S DINNER & DANCE - THIS FRIDAY

    This Friday from 6-8 is our Valentine's Dinner & Dance. Students have been learning partner dances in music class, so this is their opportunity to dress to impress and dance with their special someone. That special someone can be a parent, grandparent, another family member, or an adult friend.

    Pizza dinner starts at 6 pm and dancing starts at 7 pm.

    You can show up without RSVP'ing but we can't guarantee we'll have food for you, so please RSVP if you can. There are three ways to do that.

    Good evening MBSE parents,

    ACES (After-School Care Enrichment Services) is an afterschool program that we used to offer at MBSE but that was discontinued during COVID. The current fees for ACES at other schools is $65 per week.

    The program is run by the district, not the school, and the district is trying to determine how much interest there is in restarting the program here. To offer your feedback, please visit www.gcsnc.com/aces to complete the survey by March 1, 2023.

    Save the date!  PTO will be coordinating a Father-Daughter dance on Fri Feb 10 from 6-8.  We'll have more details as the event draws closer.

    LUNCH IS OPEN TO VISITORS
    We are opening lunch to parents and parent-approved visitors. To keep everyone safe from germs and from unapproved visitors, please follow these guidelines.

    *We will only admit parents, people accompanying a parent, and visitors pre-approved by a parent. If a visitor will be coming without a parent, a parent must call the front office ahead of time to give the name of the approved visitor(s).

    *Sign-in in the front office upon arrival.

    *At your child’s lunch time, walk directly to the cafeteria to meet your child. Please do not visit other areas of the school.

    *Eat at one of the center tables in the cafeteria.

    *Eat only with your child. Friends may not join. Siblings with different lunch times may not join.

    *Follow cafeteria rules, particularly observing silence while music is playing (every 3-5 minutes).

    *When your child’s class lines up, say goodbye to your child and walk directly to the front office. Please do not visit other areas of the school.

    *Sign-out in the front office.

    Here are three updates for the week.

    SHORT WEEK - JUST MON & TUE
    Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, we only have school on Monday and Tuesday of this week.  We hope you enjoy your break!

    COLD WEATHER CLOTHES
    Temperatures are very low in the mornings, particularly for students standing at the bus stop.  Temperatures also vary in different parts of our building during the day.  So, please be sure your child dresses in layers so they can add and remove layers as needed.  It is fine if they want to keep a sweater or sweatshirt at school for that purpose.

    CHIC FIL A NIGHT TONIGHT (Mon 11/14)
    Please stop-in or drive-through at the Chic Fil A on Pisgah Church tonight between 5 & 8. If you've got MBSE spirit gear, be sure to wear it, and also be sure to tell your server that you're with MBSE because a portion of everything we spend will go to our PTO. There will be a drawing for a gift-bag and there's a rumor that the MBSE Eagle may make an appearance!

    SMILE DENTIST REGISTRATIONS DUE TOMORROW (Tue 11/15)
    If you'd like your child seen by the Smile Dentist program, register online by the end-of-the-day tomorrow at mobiledentists.com.

    Good evening MBSE Parents - Here are a few announcements for the upcoming week.

    NO SCHOOL TUESDAY OR FRIDAY
    Tuesday is a teacher workday and Friday is a holiday, so we'll have school only on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week.

    SMORE FUN AT SCHOOL THU FROM 6-7P
    We're looking forward to seeing everyone at 6pm on Thursday for a fun night of learning by playing games, reading, and having smores!

    Please mark your calendars for Thursday, November 10 from 6-7.  Come by the school with your child for a fun night of learning by playing games, reading, and having smores.  We hope to see you there!

    TEXAS ROADHOUSE PTO FUNDRAISER

    On Tuesday, information for selling Texas Roadhouse gift cards came home in folders.  All sales will help fund our PTO which gets invested in making our school awesome!  Orders should be turned in by November 17.  Contact mbseaglespto@gmail.com with any questions.

    GRANDPARENT LUNCHES AND BOOK FAIR

    The book fair was a big success and it was great to have Grandparents in the building for lunches.  We will soon be opening lunches to parents and will have more information about that soon.

    AVOID SUGARY AND CAFFEINATED DRINKS FOR LUNCH

    Speaking of lunch, please avoid sending sugary drinks or sodas for your child's lunch.  The sugar and caffeine interferes with your child's ability to learn and, once the body has processed it out, it leaves them at a lower level of alertness than before the drink.  Thanks!

    SMILE DENTISTS

    Speaking of sugar, if you'd like your child to be seen by the Smile Dentists, please be sure to have your application in by November 15.  You can register at myschooldentist.com or call the main office to get a paper form.

    EVITE LAS BEBIDAS CON AZÚCAR Y CAFEÍNA PARA EL ALMUERZO

    Hablando de almuerzo, por favor evite enviar bebidas azucaradas o refrescos para el almuerzo de su hijo. El azúcar y la cafeína interfieren con la capacidad de aprendizaje de su hijo y, una vez que el cuerpo lo ha procesado, lo deja en un nivel de alerta más bajo que antes de la bebida. ¡Gracias!
