Feb. 11, 2020 – For the past two years, Daniel Jones has been an integral part of the Allen Jay Elementary media center team. Initially looking to volunteer his time performing routine maintenance and stocking shelves, Jones has found himself to be a consistent and hard-working figure that students can look up to.
Circulating over 600 books each week, there is plenty of work to do within the media center at AJE. Jones comes in four days a week and assists students with checking out books, shelving/circulating materials, routine maintenance, inventory, classroom management, event set-up and much more. He has found happiness in being someone who students can rely on for help whenever they need it and has continuously taken on more duties to support the media center and beyond.
Jones was nominated by staff members at Allen Jay, including Media Specialist Robert Barrilleaux, who wrote: “I could not serve my patrons as well as I do without Daniel’s assistance. He embodies a rare blend of integrity, industriousness, and initiative that has made him indispensable to me. While he may have started as a part time volunteer, Daniel has become a fixture of the AJE Media Center and a beloved member of the AJE family.”
As the GCS Volunteer of the Month, Jones was presented with a $50 Visa gift card courtesy of Rice Toyota. During the month of February, his photo will hang at the district’s central offices, Allen Jay Elementary, and Rice Toyota Collision Center on Battleground Ave.
