Singing: “It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday…” Well, I’m not saying goodbye, but I am saying “See You Later!” The time and opportunity has come for me to leave the nest once again. With a total of 5 years, Smith High School has been my starting point for every phase of my career, from teaching to coaching football to now administration. With all of my Smith experiences, I have been adequately equipped to step into my new position as an Assistant Principal at Davie High School.
While there were challenges, there were good times, and I will forever remember Smith, as one of the most erudite phases in my career. We overcame A LOT. We did some great work as a team. As a team we worked extremely hard to enhance the climate and culture of Smith High. We increased instructional time by reducing suspensions by 35%. We increased student attendance by minimizing excessive tardies and absenteeism. We increased student proficiency by adding additional supports with mentoring programs such as G.E.N.T.S & Lunch Buddies. We increased character education with restorative practices. While the list could go on, it is my hope that this work continues as the foundation has started. I have gained considerable knowledge and I have had the honor of working with a great staff and some great students.
With the multiplicity of changes happening at Smith, it is my earnest prayer that Smith has a refreshing wind that will ignite everyone for the ultimate success of its young people. I personally believe that people come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. I hope that I made some kind of impact on you during our season together. For it was The GREAT (Ms. Hines Voice..lol) Ben L. Smith High School that molded me into the firm Administrator of empowering, inspiring, and motivating a generation one person at a time.
