Hunger and Homelessness

Nov. 15-22 is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. In GCS, about 66 percent of students receive free and reduced lunch. For the 2019-2020 school year, GCS had 2,119 students who experienced homelessness.

Join GCS in increasing awareness for the needs of our students through the following daily activities:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 18: Donate a Library Day. Donate a miniature library to youth and family shelters.

  • Thursday, Nov. 19: Food & Backpack Giving Day. Share support for BackPack Beginnings: Donations or on-site volunteering.

  • Friday, Nov. 20: Thank a Community Partner Day. School Challenge: Send thank you letters or post a “thank you” message/video in recognition of a community partner.
