Information for New IB Families

Dear IB Families,
We are excited that your child will be joining us for the 2023-2024 school year!  Now that decisions have been made, we have a few pieces of information to share that will help facilitate this process.  Please be patient with us as we do our best to accommodate all your requests as the summer starts and we have a smaller staff than normal.
  1. Our Open House, called Whirlie Nation Celebration, will be held in August and is an excellent opportunity to meet teachers, other students, and see some of the many clubs that Grimsley has to offer.
  2. Since our students are our tour guides and they are home for the summer, we unfortunately cannot provide guided tours this summer. Freshmen are given a guided tour on the first day of school by our student ambassadors that will help acclimate them to the Grimsley campus.
  3. If you want to learn more about the IB Program, the PowerPoint from our IB Open House and the IB Handbook are both available on the Grimsley website: https://www.gcsnc.com/site/Default.aspx?PageID=33165
  4. If you have not yet registered for courses, you can register by emailing our IB Counselor, Mrs. Marsh at southes2@gcsnc.com by June 23.  If you do not reach out to her by then, you will need to come to Grimsley to speak with another counselor, as they work on a rotating schedule over the summer.
  5. If you are planning to take online PE or any other online course, you have to be registered by your current school counselor. This course will remain in the schedule until final grades are received.
  6. If you are not in the GCS system and need to formally enroll, please come to Grimsley High School to do so.  You will need the following documents: two proofs of address (utility bill, lease agreement, driver’s license, voter registration, etc.), immunization records, and a copy of your birth certificate.  Upon arrival at Grimsley students will also receive an enrollment packet that details necessary documentation.
Again, congratulations on becoming a Whirlie in the fall!  We look forward to welcoming you!
Sincerely,
Ben Barnard
IB Coordinator
