GCS students encouraged to access online learning resources
Greensboro, N.C. — Students may be out of school tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean they should stop learning. Superintendent Dr. Sharon L. Contreras has asked GCS educators to compile online resources that students can use to continue learning while schools are closed for inclement weather.
Students in grades K-8 will have access to recorded math lessons with Q&A support available from 11:00 a.m. to noon on Monday through this link: https://tinyurl.com/gcsignite. Those in grades K-12 can choose from coding lessons aligned to math, language arts, music, science or social studies through https://hourofcode.com/us/learn.
Free downloadable e-books are available through this link, and students in grades 3-8 are encouraged to select a book connected to the theme within the current literacy unit. Grade-level themes are:
* Third grade: Bugs
* Fourth grade: Animal Adaptations
* Fifth grade: Ecosystems
* Sixth grade: Space
* Seventh grade: Weather
* Eighth grade: American Revolution
Students should use their student ID number as their user name, and their birthday (mm/dd/yyyy) as their password to access the district’s digital bookshelf.
Should GCS be closed additional days, more resources will be added to the website. All students, including those who are experiencing power outages or who do not have internet access at home, should continue reading 30 minutes per day, in keeping with the district’s GCS Reads 30 initiative.
