Gwendolyn Hudnell Named GCS Volunteer of the Month

Nov. 6, 2019 – During what was expected to be an honor roll assembly for Wiley Elementary school students, Gwendolyn Hudnell was surprised to be called to the podium by Wiley Elementary principal LaToy Kennedy. Moments later, Hudnell was announced as the district’s Volunteer of the Month for November for the second time. As she shed tears of joy, she was cheered on by Wiley Elementary students, parents, and staff members.

For the past three years, Hudnell has volunteered at Wiley Elementary in various capacities and is known to accept whatever task is given, always going above and beyond expectations. She spends most of her time in the media center greeting students, helping them select books, and working to keep the media center neat and organized. When she is not in the media center, you will find her helping teachers throughout the school with clerical work, supervising students on field trips, or in the classrooms encouraging students to be their best.

“Her humble spirit and dedication to volunteerism and the servitude of children is remarkable,” says Jamel Womack, fourth grade teacher at Wiley who nominated Hudnell. Nominated by seven different staff members, Hudnell has proven to not only be a dedicated and dependable volunteer but to have made a lasting impact at Wiley Elementary.

As the GCS Volunteer of the Month, Hudnell was presented with a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card. During the month of November, her photo will hang at the district’s central offices and at Wiley Elementary.
