Principal's Weekly Message
Greetings Guilford eLearning Virtual Academy Families!
This is Ms. Wall, your proud GeVA Principal, with our weekly announcements for our GeVA Phoenix families. We hope that you had an amazing spring break! We are looking to finish this year strong!!
All GEVA scholars will take their Spring NWEA Map Growth Assessment Wednesday, April 27th. The address is 501 W Washington Street. If your child’s teacher hasn’t done so already, you will receive detailed logistics no later than Monday, April 25th.
All traffic should enter from Spring St to the backside of the Washington Street Annex building. Please enter the larger parking area in the back. Please do not exit your vehicle. A GeVA staff member will ensure that your child enters the building safely and arrives to their correct testing destination once inside the building.
K-2 students and siblings of K-2 students will need to arrive between 7:15 am and 7:30 am. Again, this is K-2 students and K-2 students with siblings in 3rd-5th grade.
3-5 students will need to begin arriving at 9:15 am.
K-2 students will need to be picked up by 9:00 am. If your K-2 scholar has a sibling in 3rd-5th grade, please arrive at 9:45 am as 3rd-5th grade students must take both reading and math assessments whereas K-2 students take the math assessment only.
3-5 students dismissal, for students that are not siblings of k-2 students will need to be picked up by 11:45 am.
If your child finishes earlier than anticipated, you may be messaged via Class Dojo to pick up your child earlier.
As a reminder, please fill out the free and reduced-price meals application for the 2022-2023 school year. This will allow us to provide needed services and resources throughout the district and here at our school. In addition, if your student transfers to a school where free breakfast and free lunch is not provided to all students, completing this form will ensure those families who are eligible will still receive free or reduced meals. The electronic version is available at www.lunchapplication.com and the link is also posted on our website.
Tuesday, May 3rd we will host our final GeVA Town Hall Meeting for the year. We will begin our meeting at 4:30 pm. We will also plan to have a representative from Guilford Parent Academy to speak to you about end of the year testing.
Monday, April 25th we will announce our class with the highest attendance during morning announcements. Our next attendance challenge will run from Monday, April 25th to Friday, May 6th.
Also, on Monday, April 25th we will have our last Phoenix Hobbies beginning at 2:00 pm. Our eScholars are required to attend as this activity is a component of our regular instructional day.
GeVA Families, to date, we have about 380 responses regarding your child’s intent for the upcoming school year. If we haven’t received your intent for virtual or in-person options, your child’s teacher will be in contact with you as a reminder to complete it. The deadline for student extent has been extended to Wednesday, April 25th. The link is on our website.
In addition, if you are interested in serving as a parent/guardian rep on SBLT or supporting any other committees at GeVA for the 2022-2023 school year please go to our school’s website to take the Parent Survey for SBLT. We are looking to increase our parent participation and would love to have your ideas and collaboration.
Please remember that GeVA instruction begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 2:30 PM. Your child should login promptly at 8:00 AM, be on time for each class, actively participate, attend the full lesson, and have their cameras on. By not doing so impacts promotion to the next grade level.
Please do not forget about our food pantry and the Mobile Food Market at Freeman Mill Square every 2nd and 4th Tuesday. You may contact Ms. Yow, our social worker, if any needs arise with your family.
As a reminder, please contact our main school number at 336-522-6320 if you have any questions and/or concerns. The staff at Gillespie can’t address questions and/or concerns for Guilford eLearning Virtual Academy. Also, GeVA visitors may visit Gillespie Park Elementary between the hours of 9-11 and 3-4 only or by appointment Monday – Friday.
We look forward to seeing our scholars’ beautiful faces, working with their brilliant minds, and returning to learning bright and early tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM!
If you ever need to reach out to me, please feel free to email or call me.
Have an amazing week ahead!
