Principal's Weekly Message

PRINCIPAL'S WEEKLY MESSAGE

Good evening, Colfax Vikings!! Here are your updates for this week! I hope you have all had a great weekend and are enjoying these cooler temperatures, it is feeling like fall!

This week we will mail home first quarter interim reports. If your address has changed, please call the front office to update. As you know, grades and attendance are being marked by teachers. Student have seven days to submit assignments and teachers are more than willing to work with families needing accommodations. However, the expectation is that students are logging into Canvas every day and completing assignments. Videos will be recorded and students who cannot access instruction during the day will be able to watch the recordings in the evening or when it works for your family.

For our 3rd through 5th grade students we will also mail home instructions for accessing the Power School Parent Portal.  This resource will allow parents to see students’ grades and attendance.  I encourage all upper grade families to create an account to help support your students.

For our kindergarten through 2nd grade students, if you haven’t scheduled an appointment to take your assessment, please contact your child’s teacher.  3rd grade students will also take the assessment but will do so remotely.  Stay tuned for those instructions.

Grab and go lunches are being provided every day. Lunches are from 11-12 and free for all GCS students. If you are still in need of a device, please call the front office to schedule an appointment. We are happy to help! Please remember that due to COVID-19, any visitor to the school must have an appointment and agree to a health screening along with wear a cloth face covering while in the building.

From the fabulous Colfax PTO, thank you to all who have joined the PTO, if you haven’t please consider doing so! Our  Dance Fit fundraising program is going on now! We are so excited about this event because it will be fun for all our students—they’ll take part in a character program,  participate in the Dance Fit where they’ll complete 30-35 dance minutes, and we’ll all get a needed boost of school spirit, too!  Our school has always relied on fundraising to provide an excellent educational experience for all our students. Our goal for Colfax Dance Fit is to raise $10,000 for Technology and Educational Enhancement Resources.  If this is not the right time to financially give, we completely understand. The Dance Fit program will happen Thursday at 2:30, a link to participate will be shared by your teachers! Remember, if we meet our goal, Ms. Mitchell and I will be on the roof!!

If you know of any kindergarten student who hasn’t yet registered for school, please encourage them to do so! We’d love to welcome new students to Colfax!

Finally, if your family hasn’t completed the 2020 Census, please do so at www.census.gov.  Have a great rest of the evening and call the front office with any questions!

Love, Mrs. Kimsey
