On May 30, four students from Guilford County Schools attended the College Board’s 1st Annual AP Advocacy Day (affectionately called AP on the Hill). These students met with state legislators to share the importance of Advanced Placement (AP) courses and to thank our state legislators for state funding provided through the NC Advanced Placement Partnership.
These four students (from l. to r. Mikayla Stuart, a senior at SE High School, Rami Bikdash, a junior from NW High, Jasmine Orsini, a senior at Page High, Devyn Reilly, a junior at Western High) did an outstanding job of sharing their personal stories regarding what AP has meant to them as well as their peers. During the event, our students were one of five groups selected to represent the College Board when the AP Advocacy Day was officially recognized on the House floor.
The GCS students accompanied by Kathy Saunders (l.) and Dee Jordan (r.) visited the Senate Chambers and took photos to highlight their meetings with political leaders throughout the day. Students were able to meet at length with NC Senator Gladys Robinson and later NC Senator Phil Berger.
