We are all finding our way in this new normal. Let us try to lend a hand. 

 Student Meals 

GCS plans to continue providing breakfast and lunch for students who live in poverty via its 40 Grab-and-Go Lunch sites at district schools. 

  • In addition, the district has delivered meals to students living in homeless shelters, motels and other transitional housing. Community groups have added 48 sites for food distribution for students and families in need. Food distribution locations are posted on the GCS website: https://www.gcsnc.com/

Call Center and Student Crisis Hotline 

  • The GCS COVID-19 call center operates Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday, March 27. The GCS call center can be reached at 336-332-7290. This is for questions from students, parents and the public about school closures, distance learning, special education, food assistance locations, how people can help, etc.

This number should be used for all other questions regarding school closures and resources. There will be interpreters ready to answer calls Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. The interpreters will be able to answer questions in Arabic, Swahili, French, Kinyarwanda, Rade, Vietnamese, Urdu and Spanish. This hotline will also be up and running for at least the next two weeks.
