Virtual Option for High School Students

Although there is no High School Virtual Academy, students can choose to remain virtual for the whole 20-21 school year, if they are uncomfortable with the possibility of returning to face to face teaching in October.

This virtual option will be done through Grimsley High School with the online learning platforms NCVPS and APEX.

Please note:

  • Virtual classes will be taught by teachers across NC and sometimes the country. These will not be Grimsley teachers (with rare exception).

  • Due to the nature of our schedule, students pursuing this option cannot switch back and forth between virtual and Grimsley. Most virtual classes are Block and Grimsley is traditional, so virtual is a yearlong commitment.

  • Students pursuing this option are still considered Grimsley students.

  • Many virtual classes may not be NCAA approved, so Student Athletes may want to consider this before enrolling.

  • Not all courses are available online. Spanish Immersion classes and CTE courses may not be offered. We do not control which courses are offered.

  • IB Classes are not available on these platforms. IB students in grades 11 or 12 are not eligible for this forum. IB students in Grades 9 or 10 can proceed.
  • Course grades are final and will be entered on the student transcript and will impact GPA and Class Rank, just like Grimsley classes.

  • Students can expect to work 1-2 hours per day on a yearlong course, and 2-3 hours on a semester course. Remember, semester courses will end in January, giving you a final grade.

This form should be completed by a parent or guardian for any student who wishes to commit to a full year of Virtual Learning through these platforms.

Your student’s Counselor will be responsible for enrolling your student in the virtual classes. This may be accomplished through a combination of both learning platforms. Upon completion of this form, a counselor will reach out to you via email to begin the enrollment process. This may take some time, but Counselors will work diligently to get your child enrolled.

Guilford County Schools incurs the cost for these classes so they are free to our students. However, a few courses may ask that you purchase supplemental materials. (Counselors may be able to help your student get a book needed for class, but costs for products such as lab materials for AP Chemistry, for example, may have to be incurred by the family.)
