March 3, 2020 — Guilford County Schools has been working with health and emergency management officials to prepare for the possibility that the novel (or new) coronavirus, also known at COVID-19, would affect our local community.
Tomorrow, district leaders will host a meeting with health officials and representatives from the 10 largest districts in the state to discuss preparations, as North Carolina sees its first confirmed case of the virus.
To stay healthy and keep others from becoming ill, please follow these public health guidelines:
If your child is not well, keep him or her home.
Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues, or cough or sneeze into your inner elbow.
Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. If not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Be sure to wash your hands after you cough, sneeze, use the bathroom or handle food.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces, including doorknobs, phones, keyboards, and light switches.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
Information will be shared with parents this week on symptoms of the virus, what the district is doing to reduce the spread of the flu and other respiratory illnesses and how parents and students can protect themselves. More information may be found on our district web page, including links to the latest updates from state and federal officials.
