MCV, TDAP Vaccinations Still Required
Recently, North Carolina Executive Order 156 was issued extending, but not waiving, proof-of-immunization deadlines for schools across the state.
In a normal year, students are required to show proof-of-immunization within the first 30 days of the first day of school. After those 30 days, students are excluded from school until proof is shown. However, in an unprecedented year, changes have been made. This year, the 30-day grace period for all students will begin on Oct. 1.
New this year, North Carolina law now requires that all rising 12th graders get a meningococcal vaccine (MCV) booster before starting 12th grade.
As has been the case for many years, rising 7th graders are required to have their Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (Tdap) vaccination as well as their MCV vaccination prior to beginning 7th grade.
These immunizations are required whether attending school in-person or by remote learning.
Students can get both immunizations at an upcoming immunization clinic hosted by Guilford County Public Health. The two clinics, one in High Point and one in Greensboro, will allow 7th and 12th graders to receive the appropriate vaccinations.
An appointment is preferred and can be made by calling 336-641-3245. Parents are asked to bring their children’s insurance card and their current vaccination records. Fees might apply, but you can call 336-641-3245 for all your questions.
The clinics will be held from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 29.
