Beginning today, Thursday, Nov. 12, Guilford County Schools (GCS) smart buses deployed earlier this year in historically underserved and high-needs neighborhoods will only provide services from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Afternoon WiFi services will no longer be offered in order for drivers to be back at schools for dismissal. Most elementary schools instructional day ends at 2:05 p.m.
Guilford County Schools has been providing connectivity via smart buses since May of this year. After receiving funding from Chiefs for Change, GCS was able to outfit 125 buses with the necessary technology to provide WiFi.
Although the schedule has changed, GCS still plans to continue using the buses to help as many students as possible. You can check where the closest smart bus to you is by using this map.
