Guilford County Schools Announces Revised Graduation Schedule

April 13, 2021 – Guilford County Schools (GCS) announced today that the 2021 graduation ceremonies for the 28 early/middle colleges and traditional high schools will be held at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. Ceremonies for graduates attending Gateway, Haynes Inman and Greene Education Centers will be held on their campuses.

Over the course of nine days, more than 5,700 graduates will walk across the stage and receive their diplomas.

After consideration of other venues, the Greensboro Coliseum Complex was chosen to provide the best environment possible for the ceremonies, our graduates and their families.

Although the district is excited to hold in-person graduations, we are asking families to understand that there are still many guidelines in place.

The Coliseum complex must abide by Governor Cooper’s Executive Order 204, which was issued on March 23, 2021. These restrictions limit the coliseum to 50% capacity while also requiring six feet of physical distance between groups. Graduates will be allotted five or six tickets, depending on the size of their class and the venue being used.

In addition, the Coliseum complex’s Special Events Center, which GCS normally uses for graduations, is currently serving as a COVID-19 vaccination site. GCS will use the Coliseum Fieldhouse, which is a smaller venue.

Pre-pandemic, GCS held between four and eight graduations per day and traditional school graduations could be completed in three days. To properly follow COVID-19 related cleaning protocols, Coliseum staff need four hours in-between ceremonies, rather than two. For this reason, the district can only hold four graduations per day and traditional graduations will take five days instead of three to complete.

Masks are required. Doors will open 45 minutes prior to each ceremony. Parking is free.
