High Point Central High Student Awarded Morehead-Cain Scholarship
May 24, 2022 – Lourdes Maribel Reyes Cabrera, a senior at High Point Central High, earned a position in the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholars program.
Morehead-Cain scholars receive a full scholarship to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and receive access to a network of peers, challenging internships and summer experiences and more.
Cabrera is active in Battle of the Books, soccer and badminton at High Point Central High and a passionate volunteer in her community. She works at local food banks and through her church Casa De Oracion. She also works with ESL learners at the Latino Family Center, easing transitions into a new country and working to make sure they receive the supports they need.
“It has been an honor and delight to know Lourdes,” said Allison Kelly, High Point Central High English department chair. “It is a rare experience to meet a student who is academically gifted, genuinely philanthropic and an overall pleasure to be around. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this scholarship.”
Cabrera plans to study biology at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Only 75 students from around the world joined the 2026 cohort.
