Guilford County Schools to Implement District-Wide Alert System
August 11, 2022 – Guilford County Schools is adding another layer to its safety and security practices. At its meeting on August 9, The Guilford County Board of Education approved a service contract to upgrade the school district’s communication system.
True IP Solutions will replace the district’s current server-based system with a cloud-based one that reduces maintenance, increases reliability, and saves money. This new system also provides simultaneous district-wide notifications via text, email, and phone calls. Anyone within the district will be able to pick up their phone and alert a school, facility, or district administrator in the event of an emergency.
“In an emergency, moments matter. The True IP Solutions contract ensures we have the proper infrastructure in place to notify law enforcement, schools, parents, and district leaders in a timely and uniform fashion,” Chief Operating Officer Michelle Reed said.
The telephone system upgrade is just one of several measures the district will put in place to enhance the security of its facilities and keep its students, teachers, and employees safe. By the end of this month, touchless security screeners will be installed in all the district’s comprehensive high schools. The devices are designed to detect weapons and help deter threats. ESSER (Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief) dollars will fund the contract with True IP Solutions through 2024. The cost will then be added to the district’s annual operating budget.
