Southeast High NJROTC Instructor is Employee of the Month
April 1, 2024 – Southeast High’s NJROTC program is distinguished and nationally recognized for its performance, with talented and hardworking cadets giving their all to competitions. But the achievements of this program are not possible without NJROTC instructor First Sergeant Thomas Hilliard.
A staple of the Southeast community for over 15 years, Hilliard has dedicated himself to the improvement, development and success of students in the program. Known for his commitment, Hilliard has answered the call to leadership in other areas at the school, stepping up to coach the cross-country and women’s lacrosse teams.
“This man is a role model and leader to so many children,” wrote counselor Christine Albright. “He makes a home and a family environment for so many kids that don’t have one. As a counselor, I have seen him save so many students academically and mentally. He is a father figure, teacher, role model, coach, an ear that listens, a shoulder to cry on and a motivator to push yourself and be better each day.”
Hilliard’s leadership does not go unnoticed at Southeast High or in Guilford County Schools, earning him the title of Employee of the Month for April. Cadets stood at attention waiting to surprise their instructor with the good news.
Hilliard received a $50 gift card courtesy of the Greensboro Jaycees. During the month of April, his photo will be displayed at the district’s central offices, at Southeast High and in the Greensboro Jaycees office.
