New Principal, Senior Executive Director Appointed
June 27, 2019 – Two new leaders were appointed at the Board of Education meeting on Thursday.
Dramaine Freeman will be the next principal of Swann Middle. Freeman has served as assistant principal at Jackson Middle since 2015. During that time, the school has demonstrated marked gains in student achievement.
Freeman has experience as a career development coordinator at the Middle College at GTCC-Jamestown and as a high school math teacher. He is a participant in the New Leaders Assistant Principal Leadership Academy.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in electronics and computer technology from North Carolina A&T State University, his master’s degree in education from the University of Phoenix and his post-graduate work to earn school administrator licensure at Appalachian State University.
Nicole Portee will become senior executive director of operations systems support services, under the direction of the chief operations officer.
Portee is currently the executive director of transportation in Denver Public Schools, a district that serves 98,000 students. In that role, she implemented Denver’s first transportation shuttle for students, reducing the budget by $1.5 million. Portee has more than 26 years of experience in transportation and human resources.
