Good Evening Tiger Nation, this is Principal Chase Arrington at Western Guilford Middle School bringing you announcements for the week of Monday, September 18th – Friday, September 22nd.
We are excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month September 15th – October 15th. Attached are activities we will do to celebrate the Hispanic Culture Oct. 9th – October 13th. Students and staff have the option to participate in this spirit week! Students must follow WGMS dress code policy during spirit week unless otherwise noted in the spirit week attire.
Walk the Schedule Night:
Tuesday, September 19th we will host our Walk the Schedule/Title I Curriculum Night from 5pm – 7:30pm. We will begin in the multi-purpose room with a welcome from our PTA President and Campus Life. Principal Arrington have an overview of the school’s Title I/Curriculum Update. At 6pm, families will participate in walking their child’s schedules and receiving updates since the start of school.
7th Grade Immunization Update:
Parents, if you have immunizations for 7th graders, this is a great opportunity to bring those documents. If any 7th grader does not have updated shot records, they will be excluded from school through suspension beginning September 27th. Students needing updated shots will receive documents Monday, September 18th. Please contact Ms. Hill, Ms. Stanton, or Nurse Goins for questions.
Boys Soccer/Girls Volleyball will travel to Mendenhall Middle Monday, September 18th for games starting at 4:45pm.
We will host our first home football game Wednesday, September 20th at 5pm against Kiser Middle. Children are $3 and adults are $5. Concessions will be sold for both events. Athletic events are cash only.
Our Schoolwide goal is to grow students in reading and math 10 points on their RIT score from Fall to Spring on the NWEA MAP Assessment. This assessment is adaptive and determine the skills students currently have compared to their same age peers across the nation. We will give our fall NWEA assessments Wednesday, September 20th and Thursday, September 21st. Please have students arrive on time so we can begin our assessments by 8:50am. The assessments will take up to 3 hours. During the testing session, students will not be permitted to leave early. Contact the school if you have questions.
Attached to the email and remind messages are this week’s newsletters. Please review them for upcoming assignments and due dates.
Monday, September 25th will be a teacher workday. GCS will be closed to students. Please plan accordingly.
Thank you, Tiger Nation, and have a wonderful week!
