2/18/24

Good evening parents, this is Principal McHam calling from Kernodle Middle with your weekly announcements.

The spring sports interest meeting is on Monday at 630 in the commons.  Tryouts for those interested in sprinting sports will begin March 6th.  All sports information must be uploaded in Dragonfly no later than March 4th. 

Congratulations to our girls’ basketball team for making it to the first round of the GCS basketball tournament.  The game will be at home on Tuesday against Swann Middle School at 5:00.

Interims will go out this Wednesday for each student from all of their teachers. 

This is another reminder that Tuesday, March 5, is the statewide primary election and our school will be used as a polling location. Students will learn remotely on Tuesday, March 5, and log in to Canvas on Tuesday for the day’s lessons. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for pickup using a drive-through process on our campus from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. We will return to the building the following day, on March 6.

Good evening, families this is Principal McHam calling from Kernodle Middle with an important message. Tuesday, March 5, is the statewide primary election, and our school will be used as a polling location. To avoid any potential safety issues, students will learn remotely on Tuesday, March 5. Students will take home devices on Monday and will log in to Canvas on Tuesday for the day’s lessons. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for pickup using a drive-through process on our campus from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. We will return to the building the following day, on March 6.
Again, our students will learn remotely on March 5th due to our school being used as a voting site. Thank you for your support and have a great evening.

Basketball will play at Mendenhall on Thursday and wrestling will be at home.

The PTA-sponsored 7th -8th-grade dance will be on Friday, February 16th from 6-8 pm.  Permission slips will be coming home with students soon.  To attend the dance, students must have two weeks of good behavior and no Admin consequences.  Students must also be present from 820 - 320 on the dance day to be eligible to attend.  PTA needs parent volunteers to help make the dance a success.  Please look for the sign-up on the PTA website at kernodlepta.com

Please remind your students that they should always keep their hands and items to themselves.  Horse playing, especially in the bathrooms, is not appropriate for school.  Cell phones should not be out during the school day, if confiscated, parents will have to pick them up at the end of the school day.

Please sign your student’s report card and return it if you have not done so already. 

 

It’s Super Bowl week and Kernodle will celebrate Super **Attendance** Week. Please encourage your child to attend school on time every day next week to participate. There will be fun games for the most improved attendance and recognition for students with perfect attendance and zero tardies.

 

Basketball will play at Northeast on Tuesday and Western at home on Thursday. 

Wrestling will be at home on Tuesday and at Western on Thursday.  All students must be picked up no later than 15 minutes after the game ends to attend the next afterschool event.

 

Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered at the 6th-grade dance.

Good evening parents this is Principal McHam with your weekly updates.

 

Hard copies of report cards will be sent home with your students on Wednesday.  Please sign this copy and return it to school. 

 

Basketball will play at home on Monday against Allen and at home on Thursday against Hairston. 

Wrestling will be at Allen on Tuesday and at Hairston on Thursday.

 

NWEA testing will take place on Tuesday morning for math and Wednesday morning for reading.  Students need to come to school on time and with a charged Chromebook. 

 

The PTA-sponsored Winter dances are coming up. The 6th grade-only dance is this Friday, from 6-8 pm, and the 7th & 8th-grade dance will be on Friday, February 16th from 6-8 pm.  Permission slips will be coming home with students soon.  To attend the dance, students must have two weeks of good behavior and no Admin office detention or suspensions.  Students must also be present from 820 - 320 on the day of the dance to be eligible to attend.

Tomorrow is a mandatory workday for teachers and school is closed for students.

Basketball will play at home on Tuesday against Mendenhall and at Jackson on Thursday.
Wrestling will be at Mendenhall on Tuesday and at home on Thursday against Jackson.

GCS choice schools’ applications will be open from January 19th through February 24th! The Kernodle counselors will have parent information sessions about high school choices and the application process on Monday, January 22nd. In-person sessions at Kernodle will be at 9 am and 12 pm and a virtual session at 7 pm. For more information, please see Mr. Adachi’s webpage or contact Mr. Adachi at adachik@gcsnc.com.

School is closed tomorrow for the MLK Holiday.

This Friday is the end of the quarter.

The GCS choice schools applications will be open from January 19th through February 24th! The Kernodle counselors will present information about the different high school choices and the application process on Monday, January 24th. The P.E. Department wants to thank everyone who participated in our Hoops for Heart and Jump Rope for Heart event.  As a school, we raised $684.00 for the American Heart Association!

We continue to remind students of appropriate school behaviors and need your help with this matter as well.  Students should keep their hands and items to themselves at all times.  Horse playing, especially in the bathrooms, is not appropriate for school.  Cell phones should not be out during the school day, if confiscated, parents will have to pick them up at the end of the school day. 

PTA sponsored Boosterthon is back.  Students can now SIGN UP for our Cougar Silent Disco! Our goal is to raise $6,000 for digital signage. Creating your page for the fundraiser is easy and free. As we come back to school tomorrow, it is important that students come back with a charged Chromebook, notebook paper and plenty of pencils.

We continue to remind students of appropriate school behaviors and need your help with this matter as well.  Students should keep their hands and items to themselves at all times.  Horse playing, especially in the bathrooms, is not appropriate for school.  Cell phones should not be out during the school day, and students will run the risk of them being confiscated and a parent will have to come and pick it up at the end of the school day.  Cell phones should not be in the locker rooms or bathrooms at any time throughout the school day.  Thank you for helping us with this matter as we work together to keep school a safe place for all students.

This Friday, January 5th, students will participate in Hoops for Heart and Jump Rope for Heart during their P.E. encore class time.  Students who donate at least $1.00 to the American Heart Association will get to participate in a 3 vs. 3 Basketball Tournament, Knock-Out Games, and Jump Rope Competitions for prizes.  Please reach out to your student's P.E. teacher with any questions.

For everyone’s safety, we ask that you follow the traffic pattern. 
Students must be in school for at least a half day to attend and participate in all after-school events.  If they are not picked up 15 minutes after the event ends, they will not be able to attend the next after school event.   
The Orchestra concert is this Tuesday.
Thank you to everyone who has donated non-perishables and socks.  We are still collecting these items.   
SPORTS
On Monday basketball will be at Allen and at Hairston on Wednesday.   
Wrestling is Monday against Allan and Hairston on Wednesday, all at home.
GCS has a clear bag policy and only cash is accepted for games, $5 for adults, and $3 for school-aged students.  Thanks for your continued support of Cougar Athletics!
Winter Break will start on Friday, December 22nd and students will return on Wednesday, January 3rd.

Good evening parents.  This is Principal McHam with your weekly updates.

For everyone’s safety, we ask that you follow the traffic pattern. 

Students must be in school for at least a half day to attend and participate in all after-school events.  If they are not picked up 15 minutes after the event ends, they will not be able to attend the next after school event.  

The Chorus concert is Tuesday and the band concert is Thursday.

Student council is sponsoring a canned food drive next week and kicking it off with spirit week.  Please consider donating non-perishable foods.  We would also like your help as we collect socks for the homeless. Each grade level homeroom with the largest collection will earn a pizza party.

Monday is Be a Food Day, Tuesday is Winter Gear Day, Wednesday is Twin Day, Thursday is Decade Day and Friday is Ugly Sweater Day.
