Good evening Kernodle Parents, this is Principal McHam with your weekly message.

Come out and support our spring sports.  3 dollars for students and 5 dollars for adults and remember that GCS has a clear bag policy.

Track is at Western Guilford Middle against Northwest starting at 4:45 on Wednesday.

Softball and baseball is at home on Thursday against Northwest Middle.

Please mark your calendars for Kernodle Spirit Night at the Battleground Plaza Chick-fil-a this Tuesday, March 14th from 5-8 p.m. Pick up dinner and help out the school!

Spring pictures will be on March 20th and forms were sent home on Friday with your student.  You can prepay for your pictures online or send money and the form with your student on that day.

Please continue to remind your students of appropriate school and bus behaviors as we continue to work to keep everyone safe.

Good evening parents this is Principal McHam.Students should come home this evening with a hard copy of their interim reports from all of their classes.

In North Carolina, state law requires all rising 7th graders have the MCV and the Tdap vaccination. Documentation must be provided to the school prior to your student starting the 7th grade. Proof can be sent to the front office. Your student will also come home with a letter with more information.

Good evening parents this is Principal McHam with your weekly updates.

The Kernodle counselors will hold a virtual information session on high school registration on Tuesday, the 28th at 6:45 pm. Please be sure to attend to learn how to enter course requests in PowerSchool and about different course options. The link to the virtual registration meeting can be found on Mr. Adachi’s webpage on the Kernodle website or on the counseling department’s Canvas page.

All spring sports details can be found on the website under athletics.  Tryouts will begin on March 6th with the exception of golf which is on March 13th

The deadline for ALL DragonFly sports submissions is March 3rd.  ALL sections must be completed, and correct forms uploaded to be approved.  No paperwork will be accepted on tryout days; no exceptions.

If you missed the online sale, students may pre-order yearbooks on Monday, February 27, and Tuesday, February 28 from 8:00 -8:20 in Mrs. McKinney’s Room 511 for $45 exact cash only.  Exact cash only.

 Students should come to school with charged laptops every day and have their One Card with them daily to scan when entering the building.

Good evening 7th and 8th grade parents, this is Courtney Harrington, PTA President with some information about our 7th and 8th grade only dance this Friday, February 17th from 6-8 p.m.We are still in need of some volunteers for the dance, the signupgenius can be found on the pta website, kernodlepta.com. You must be an approved volunteer with GCS and have Kernodle listed on your approval. The link to register or update your volunteer location is also on the PTA website.Your child can purchase tickets for $5, cash only befor school on Thursday, February 16th or Friday February 17th. Tickets will also be on sale at the door for $7 cash only. Your child must have a signed permission slip to purchase a ticket. permission slips are available on the PTA website, kernodlepta.com, in the front office or will be sent home with your student.Food tickets will be available at the dance for $1 each, cash only. Food tickets can be used to purchase pizza, drinks, and snacks.2 weeks of good behavior is required prior to the dance in order to be able to attend. School dress code applies. Good evening parents, this is Kernodle Middle School calling.  Report cards were electronically sent today for all students.  In order to open your student's report card, you will need the last 4 digits of your student’s school number.  This is their NCEdCloud number which they use in the cafeteria and the Media Center.  If you did not receive an emailed version of your student's report card, please contact the homeroom teacher to receive a paper copy.

Permission Slips for the PTA sponsored 6th grade only dance will take place this Friday were sent home with your students. You can also download a copy of the permission form and sign-up to volunteer at kernodlepta.com.Tickets will be on sale before school on Thursday, February 9th and Friday, February 10th for $5, cash only. Students must have a signed permission slip to purchase a ticket. Tickets will also be on sale the night of the event for $7, cash only. Students must have 2 weeks of good behavior to attend the dance and the school dress code applies. The dance this Friday is only for 6th graders.

Good evening parents, this is Principal McHam with your weekly updates.

School is closed tomorrow for the MLK holiday. 

Tuesday wrestling is at home against Kiser.  Thursday basketball is at Mendenhall and the boys will play first, starting at 4:45.  Wrestling will be at home. 

It is important that students scan their One Card each day and if they do not scan in, they will not be allowed to attend the afterschool event that evening. 

PTA would like you to mark your calendar for some upcoming events.  Friday, February 10th is the 6th grade only spring dance.  Friday, February 17th is the 7th and 8th graders' only spring dance.  Wednesday, February 22nd will be a night out at the NBA G League Greensboro Swarm game.  More specifics are to come soon. 

The end of the grading period is January 26th.

Tomorrow, girls’ and boys’ basketball will play at home against Northern.  The girls will play at 445 and the boys will play at 6 and the theme is neon.  Show your support by wearing your neon colors. 

Wrestling is at Northern and will start at 5:00 p.m.

The orchestra concert is Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

Students should come to school with charged laptops every day and have their One Card with them daily to scan when entering the building.

Good evening parents, this is Principal McHam with a brief message about the HVAC system.  The HVAC system was restored during the school day today and all classrooms have had heat since it occurred.  Thankfully, mild outdoor temperatures lead to generally comfortable temperatures in most of the building when the HVAC system was not working properly.  At this time, all classrooms do have heat.Thank you and have a great evening.

Good evening Kernodle parents, this is Principal McHam with your weekly updates.I hope that you all had a wonderful winter break.

With the storm front, there was damage to many GCS school sites.  Students should dress warmly until further notice of heat being restored in the building. The district is aware of the issues concerning the HVAC in our building and working diligently to address this issue.

As students return to school tomorrow remember to charge your laptops and bring your One Card, which they should have with them daily to scan when entering the building.

As we return, students, please remember appropriate school and bus behaviors.  Your hands should be kept to yourself at all times.  Horse play in the hallways will not be tolerated at any time.  Food and drinks are not allowed to be consumed on the bus.  Music should not be heard at any time by the drivers as this is a distraction and we want to keep all students safe while riding the bus.

Parents, we appreciate your support in speaking with your student about appropriate school and bus behaviors as we continue to work to keep everyone safe.

Students should have their One Card with them daily to scan when entering the building.

The band concert is Tuesday and the orchestra concert is Wednesday, they both will start at 6.

Thank you to all of the families who donated to our food drive for Urban Ministries.  We have collected almost 1500 cans of food to be donated.  Thank you again for your support.

Mrs. Petit will begin Family Life classes with Mr. Garrett's Health/PE classes on Monday, November 28th.   Family Life is a 14-day unit for 7th and 8th-grade students and a 4-day unit for 6th-graders. Informational letters were previously sent home with students.  If you have questions, please email Mrs. Petit at petitg@gcsnc.com.

PTA will sponsor a Velocity 360 night this Friday the 2nd from 630 – 830 and it is only for Kernodle Middle School students.

Tryouts for basketball and wrestling will start on November 16th.  All information is on the Kernodle website under athletics. The deadline to complete and upload physicals in DragonFly is Saturday, November 12th.  Also, check dragonfly for any corrections that need to be made to the uploaded documentation. Hard copies of documents will not be accepted at tryouts.

The Kernodle Booster Bash Fundraiser is underway, and we are looking forward to our Silent Disco Bash next week.  This year, we’re raising funds for technology updates, and we need your help!  If you haven’t already registered, please do so and donate for your student on mybooster.com by searching for our school’s name.  This weekend, if you register your child and send three emails through the mybooster.com site, your child will be put in a drawing to win a waterproof speaker.  Thank you for supporting our students and staff at Kernodle Middle.

Students received a hard copy of their report cards on Wednesday.  Please reach out to their teachers if you have any concerns.

Student Council is doing canned goods and nonperishables food drive for Urban Ministries.  The homeroom with the most cans at the end of the week will win a small token of appreciation. 

Basketball and wrestling tryouts will start on Wednesday, November 16th.  Hard copies of information will not be accepted at tryouts. All information must be uploaded into DragonFly.

There is no school on Tuesday or Friday.

Tomorrow, October 31st is a teacher workday and there will not be any school for students. 

Volleyball will play at home against Mendenhall on Tuesday and at Western Middle on Thursday.  Football will play at home against Northeast Middle on Wednesday.Students who accumulate 4 or more tardies each 9-weeks will receive after-school detention. Pajamas or bedroom slippers are not allowed to be worn at school.  Please review the school’s dress code on our website as well as in the student planner. Mrs. Petit will begin Family Life classes with Mr. Bell's Health/PE classes on Tuesday, November 1st.   Family Life is a 14-day unit for 7th and 8th-grade students and a 4-day unit for 6th-graders.
