NGMS Student Ambassadors

Wednesday mornings, 7:30 am

 

*Additional time commitments will be needed throughout the year.

Student Ambassadors is a school-based group that provides students with opportunities to develop communication and leadership skills by organizing and executing school activities/service projects and assisting the office/counselors with tours for new families.  Ambassadors will be 7th & 8th grade students who previously servAed as well as (up to) two 6th grade students per homeroom who have been voted into the role by their peers and receive satisfactory recommendations by their teachers.

Chess Club

Wednesday afternoons, Dismissal – 4:30

NGMS students with an interest in chess are invited to attend.  Students must fill out an interest form and have it signed by a parent before they can stay – interest forms can be found in the office or on the school website.

Battle of the Books

Thursday mornings,

7:30 – 8:20 am

BOB is a quiz bowl type competition held in the spring where middle school teams of 12 battle it out with their knowledge of the 22 selected books.

Students will have the opportunity to explore the NGMS MakerSpace through thoughtful science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities.  Students are expected to be respectful of the MakerSpace environment and use the items with care.

Students Against Violence Everywhere – Promise Club is the youth leadership initiative of Sandy Hook Promise.  Our goal is to empower young leaders to take an active role in increasing school safety and preventing different forms of violence in schools and communities.

Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP60)

Monday afternoons, 3:45 – 5:00 pm

The FUTP60 engages and inspires students to take the lead in their own health & wellness.  The goal is to empower students to improve their physical activity with at least 60 minutes of physical activity such as bowling, obstacle courses, golf, basketball, volleyball, flag games, self-defense, tennis, personal fitness, non-traditional games, attending ACC Women’s Tournament Basketball Clinic and additional field trips.

Letters of the Lost Art

Thursdays on A Weeks, 3:45 – 4:30 pm

The first 15 minutes of each session will be spent learning how to write cursive lettering, as well as reading it.  The remainder of the time will be spent learning how to do other small crafts the club members are interested in doing.  Some examples include “lost arts’ like cross stitch or crocheting, other crafts could be more current, like painting wall décor and other “Etsy”ish crafts.  We will also be completing some small service projects.

Publications Club

Bi-Weekly after school,

The Publications Club is responsible for creating the yearbook and designing the PowerPoint Presentation that scrolls with weekly announcements and school celebrations.  This club meets October – March, and students must submit an application which includes teacher recommendations and administrative approval.

Art Club

Last Tuesday of the month, Dismissal – 5:00

Whether you're in ART class or not, this is for you!!  

Due to high volume of interest in the art club, you will need to apply for a slot. There will be 20 openings.  See Mrs. Rumsey for an application.

All applicants must complete an essay on why you wish to join the art club and what you would like to work on as a skill, as well as submit a piece of artwork (8x10) with your application.

  • Applications, essays, and pieces of artwork are due by November 9th. The list of members will be posted outside the art room door by the 13th.
