Good morning, this is Ms. Young. Some of you may have heard about a social media post that makes a vague reference to school violence. One of our students shared a post from New York that was completely unrelated to Northwest High. I want to assure you that we take any potential threat seriously and that we work closely with law enforcement to keep students and staff safe. It is important that students and families know that sharing rumors and unsubstantiated threats on social media, texts or other means is not helpful. Rather, students and parents should report any concerns to an administrator, our SRO or law enforcement. Working together, we can keep our school safe while minimizing disruptions. Again there is no threat to NW High School. Thank you.

Good morning, this is Ms. Young with an important message about our schedule today. You received a call from GCS last night regarding the bus driver shortages due to the surge in COVID-19 cases across our community. As a reminder, high schools will start an hour and half late today. Our schedule is on our school website, and also in the email you will receive as well if you are signed up for emails.
However, buildings will be open and teachers will be on site. Parents can drop off students at the normal time and walkers can arrive at the normal time, if needed.
Please check the Here Comes the Bus app for the most up to date bus information because many buses will be delayed. Dismissal will be at normal time today, but many buses will be late. If you are able, you may use the car rider line to pick up your student.
GCS will continue to work over the weekend to come up with a plan for what next week will look like given the surge in Coronavirus and increased bus driver shortages. I will communicate any additional changes this weekend.
Thank you so much for your flexibility and understanding as GCS is working hard to keep schools in person during this time.

Finally, I want to thank all of our parents for the support in keeping our campus clean and safe. Many of us are on edge after the recent events at high schools surrounding us, and those concerns are natural and understandable. But they can also lead to unnecessary panic when misinformation is shared on social media and in other ways. To help keep false rumors from spreading, please only share information that you can personally verify, and make sure you share it with the right people. If you hear or see something of concern, tell a school administrator, SRO or law enforcement, who will fully investigate the matter. And please remind your children that making untrue remarks, even if intended as a joke, can lead to serious consequences. Again, thank you so much for the support.
Thanks so much, and have a great night!

Good evening Northwest parents, this is Ms. Young with an update about yesterday and today's events so that everyone is on the same page. Again, we have had MULTIPLE issues with vandalism this week due to TikTok challenges that are happening nationwide. Our custodians work entirely too hard to continue to have to clean up vandalism, feces, food, and destruction of school property. Students that are creating disruptions are being handled, and have received severe consequences. It is a crime to vandalize school property, and we will not tolerate this behavior at Northwest High school. Additionally, we have students that are understandably anxious about school violence at other schools, and they are in a heightened state. We paused transition to 3rd period today to investigate these concerns. The school was never in a lockdown, and we resumed normal activities after a brief time.
I appreciate everyone's cooperation and support, and we encourage parents and students to be vigilant and report any issues or concerns that you see to an Administrator or teacher. Thanks again, and have a great night!!!!

Good morning parents. This is Ms, Young with an important message. A few parents have expressed concerns about a rumor indicating a threat of violence on our campus. Law enforcement has been involved and we can confirm that this is strictly a rumor and there is no credible threat. To help keep rumors from spreading, please only share information that you can personally verify. If you do hear or see something of concern, tell a school administrator or law enforcement, who will fully investigate the matter. By working together, we can keep our school safe while minimizing disruptions. Northwest High is all safe, and there are no concerns. Thank you.

Good evening, this is Ms. Young, Principal of Northwest High school with an important announcement. Due to some escalating behaviors, we have decided to immediately suspend our Flex Lunch schedule. We are extremely disappointed, and we hope to start the schedule back up in a few days. We will be speaking with all students to explain behavioral expectations during class changes and Flex Lunch. We understand that the transition back to school has been an adjustment for all students, and that there are some behavioral challenges across the state and nation, but we have high expectations for student behavior at Northwest. Currently, there are multiple TikTok challenges that are circulating nationwide. Students are vandalizing bathrooms, stealing school items, and creating intentional disruptions to the school day. This will not be tolerated at NWH. Additionally, we will be very closely monitoring bathrooms during class time and class changes. We are working to support students in all ways, and we expect that this will improve quickly. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. Thanks, and have a great night!
