 Wednesday, November 29th

Good evening, this is Ms. Young from Northwest Middle School. I just wanted to give an additional update about recent events at Northwest High. I have heard from many of you today, and I want each of you to know that student safety is at the forefront of all our minds.  I want to update you on the security measures taken thus far at both campuses. There were multiple law enforcement officers on campus this morning and several remained until the end of the school day. The officers were both uniformed as well as plain clothed officers with both marked and unmarked cars.  Tomorrow there will be at least the same level of law enforcement presence throughout the day.

We also know that our students require and deserve extra support right now. Please encourage your student to reach out to a teacher, counselor, administrator, or any other adult with any concerns. We want to support all of our students in any way that we can. We are aware that there is a lot of work to be done, and the work before us will involve input from students, parents, and staff.  We will work with our school's equity team, and develop student focus groups to help us plan action steps moving forward.  Thank you for your understanding and continued support of Northwest Middle School and please reach out to me with any concerns or ideas.

Sunday, August 26th

Good afternoon, this is Ms. Young, Principal of Northwest Middle with your weekly reminders.  Tomorrow, Monday August 27th is the first day of school!!  We so enjoyed seeing all of you at Open House, and we can't wait to start the 2018-2019 school year!!  As a reminder, school begins at 8:55am and dismisses at 3:50pm.  If arriving by car, please leave plenty of time since traffic may be heavy.

In the morning prior to reporting to homeroom, 6th graders will wait in the gym, 7th grade will be in the cafeteria and 8th grade will wait in our front commons area.

If you do not know your student's bus number, please visit our NWMS website and follow the link for “bus stop locator”.  Due to overcrowded conditions on buses, you will not be able to ride a bus other than your assigned bus.  Students need to know their bus number or car rider number for dismissal.   Parents please use the car rider line for drop off and pick up.  Please do not use the front parking lot, or bus lot.  Parking on the road is also very dangerous.

We will be sending home lots of information on the first day of school.  Parents, please make sure you review and sign documents to return on Tuesday.

Our counseling department is currently working on schedule changes.  Your student needs to follow the schedule he/she was given until they receive notice from their counselor.   Students will receive another schedule during homeroom tomorrow morning.

Any student who requires special dietary needs, has a food allergy or if you would like to add comments on your student’s lunch account. Please contact our cafeteria manager.

Students will not be receiving lockers on the first day, and 8th graders may not receive them until the end of the week.  Students may not want to bring lots of extra school supplies until lockers are assigned.

Students can purchase a PE uniform during the first week of school.  As a reminder those are 16 dollars, and students can purchase 1 uniform at this time due to large enrollment numbers.  If your student is trying out for Fall Sports, please have them turn in sport physicals to our Athletic Director by 9am on Monday Aug. 27th.  Tryouts will start tomorrow.
